Spa Palace & Adventura Palace Trip Report

Just got back from our trip yesterday. Here is the scoop!

First of all, I am not a travel agent or Palace Member trying to sell or persuade anyone to buy something!!!

We originally wanted to go to the Spa Palace because they advertised Spa/Golf packages in the travel brochure. When we went to book it, the travel agent said it wasn't available yet because it was late opening. Instead we booked the Adventura Palace & bought a separate Golf package add-on.

When we got to the Adventura, we were surprised to drive by the Spa Palace which was opened. This is odd.... the Spa Palace is actually an extension of the Adventura Palace - i.e. one really big hotel with 2 lobbies!

We checked into the Adventura and our room stunk so badly of mold and mildew because of the humid weather. I couldn't stand it for 5 minutes. Many people commented on this. We upgraded and moved to the Spa Palace and had a nice smelling room! The rooms are exactly the same at the Spa & Adventura. They had an "opening special" for an additional $20 per person a night you could stay at Spa Palace which included 7 spa treatments (they pick them) per person. These are only 25 minute treatments.

What we really liked:
* First class spa - they say that it is the biggest in North America.

* Incredible fitness facility, group exercise & spinning studio. I am in the business & I can tell you that they spared no expense!

* Beautiful pools.

* Exceptionally friendly and accomodating staff who are eager to please.

* Fabulous Palace owned Golf Course in Playacar about 15 - 20 minutes away. The golf package we bought was a great value. We paid $550 Canadian for 2 of us. We golfed 5 times and it would have cost us about $2000 without the package! It is $120 US per round.

* Overall a very beautiful resort with no expense spared on the building etc.

Other comments:

* Food was average which is typical for a resort feeding huge numbers of people. It was better at the a la carte restaurants.

* There is a man made lagoon running in front of the hotel. If you are looking for a beautiful beach resort - this is not for you.

* BEWARE of the savvy Time share sales people!!!! If anyone invites you for a tour or a special celebration event etc - just say NO! Once they get a hold of you, you will spend about 2 - 4 hours with them.

* If you want a better view ( they are all partial ocean view rooms), request the 3rd floor (top floor) and stay in rooms ending in 4, 5 or 6.

Overall an excellent experience - even with the mediocre food - I still managed to put on a few unwanted pounds!

Highly recommended!
