secrets maroma

Thinking of going to this resort would you feel safe going to mexico now that swine flu advisory is lifted and with the warnings about the borders of mexico? Would love to hear from anyone who has been to resort recently. The resort looks like it is beautiful. Also how long is the ride to the resort from the airport. Thanks

The swine flu is now all over the world, so I wouldn't let that keep me from going. Also, this part of Mexico has nothing to do with the "border" issues. This resort is on one of the most beautiful stretches of beach in the area. It is adults only, has wonderful service and good food. The only issue is that the pool is somewhat small for the size of the resort. It's about a 30 minute ride from the Cancun airport.
You also may want to look into the Iberostar Pariso Grand which is also an adults only resort that is top of the line.

I prefer Zoetry, also an AMResort. Much more laid back and none of the rah-rah component of Secrets Maroma.
Look at reviews of both on Tripadvisor and see what suits you.

Zoetry and Secrets are so totally different. It depends on what you are looking for. Zoetry is wonderful...VERY small and Secrets is a big resort. Zoetry is also VERY quiet. If you want acitivities and any kind of nightlife, I wouldn't recommend Zoetry. If you just want to relax and veg out, then Zoetry would be great.

We are checking in on Wednesday, October 14. Will be back Thursday, October 22. If you can wait until then I will answer your questions. We are not afraid of the flu - too old - mostly it's a younger persons flu. It is 30 miles south of the Cancun Airport so it will take 30 - 45 minutes to get there depending on traffic and how fast we travel.

We've been looking at this resort for a future trip. I do not mind that it's pretty big with lots of things to do. I don't have any intention of trekking to 5th Avenue in Playa for that trip, so I'm looking for a resort with lots of activites especially at night.

We have also considered the Iberostar Grand Parasio. It gets really good reviews, but the main pool is salt water, which is a turn off to us. If you don't mind look into that also.

I personally didn't like the look of Zoetry, but I'm not looking for a quite couple time type of trip.

I have no qualms about returning to Mexico. We've been 9 times and are returning to Cozumel in December.

The Iberostar Paraiso Grand's pool is not really a salt water pool. It is filled with regular water, but rather than use chlorine, they use a salt solution to purify the water.
There are a couple pools at the IB Paraiso. Their pools a a lot nicer than the small one at Secrets Maroma.

Schmerl, thanks for the explanation, but still a turn off. Reminds me of a cruise ship pool. If it wasn't the main pool with the swim-up bar I wouldn't mind.

Secrets Maroma has the better beach though hands down. I also like the look of the swim out rooms.

MYSTREYLADY ,
I have stayed at Secrets resorts, but not Secrets Maroma. I know people who have stayed at both Secrets Maroma and the IB Grand and they said the Grand edged out Secrets Maroma because of the palapas on the beach and the pools.
KVR,
Many resorts (and people with their own pools) now use salt treatments rather than chlorine since it is easier on our skin and eyes.

IB Grand is a nicer, bigger resort with more amenities than Secrets Maroma. It's also is more expensive. I would love to stay there and recommend it often to people looking for that type of resort. The salt water pool issue it's just my personal perefernce. Sorry can't get over it. We don't usually stay at luxary resorts such as these as we like more budget friendly AI hotels, so have never come across pools like that. This is were research is best. I would have been majorly disappointed if I chose the IB Grand and didn't know upfront.

We go to Mexico every Nov/Dec. We picked Cozumel this year, but are looking at Secrets Maroma for next year. We've been to Maroma Beach several times and love that area.

What room catagory is that?

beachdestinations.com lists between $2,700 to $3,600.

Orbitz starts at 2,600. 2,800 for a swim out room. Go to www.retailmenot.com/coupons/travelandtour.sm for a $200 off coupon. Probably you're best deal.

This close out you can find some good last minute deals. Have a TA check GoGo for you also.

I'll be waiting with baited breath for your review of this resort. We really want to go there.

Acutally, go to Orbitz.com put in the promo code as 200entertain The lowest catagory room starts at $2400 and a swim out room is $2666.00.

you can also go to http://www.retailmenot.com/view/orbitz.com and view all the other discount codes and offers.

We used this promo for our trip to Cancun last year and it was no problem.

What is the beach & ocean like in this area? What is it like at Zoetry in particular (will be going with our 8 month old so Maroma isn't an option for us. The water looks clearer (less sea grass) at Escencia, but that resort is much more expensive.

That price is for the basic room I know it will be great since we stayed at the secrets capri in same level room and it was beautiful. That is with everything included r/t direct flight transfer so on through a TA. Thanks for all the information. the IB Grand looked wonderful also but we always wanted to try secrets and I perfer the no reservations for dinner at secrets. Cant wait to go will let you know how it is. Schmerl you are right the IB grand is cheaper than the secrets but wow they are higher than the price I got for Secrets. Well thanks to everyone for all your help and advise thanks

Yeah! I also prefer the no reservation system for dinner. I'll be looking for your report. Even though you didn't get a swim out room, let me know if you think it's worth it.

Have a great and safe trip.
