Scam at Guatemala Duty Free La Riviera

I would like to alert travelers leaving Guatemala City airport.

Do not buy anything at La Riviera stores. They carry make-up, fragrances, etc.

Many of us were waiting on our way to board the plane for the merchandise to arrive. When it was delivered, a supervisor with the airport came screaming that we could not have our things because the stuff was being delivered too late. He went on and on and on repeating himself. In the amount of time he used to repeat himself, we could have all gone to the store for a refund but he would not let us leave the gate. Long story short. The clerk took all of our e-mail addresses saying he would contact us. I took his e-mail and his boss's name too.

They never contacted me. I wrote 4 different letters. To the clerk, his boss and 2 store headquarters. No response from anyone to date.

Quite a scam! You are on your way out of the country and need to board the plane.
They get to keep your money and your merchandise and probably get a big laugh out of it too.

Thats awful. I hope everyone paid with a CC. You can protest the charge and i am sure you can get a refund.

I had quetzales left that I used up there so paid in cash. I have my receipt which I will give to a friend going there next month. With any luck, something will be done for me then.

Thanks for your response and support.

I hope something can be done but it seems yo will need more than to rely on their sense of fair play. I mean if they are cheaters they will try to keep cheating. Again, good luck.
