Royal Playa Del Carmen vs Iberostar Tucan/Quetzal

My husband and I are going to PDC June 30 - July 6, and we're having a tough time deciding between the Royal PDC and the Iberostar Tucan/Quetzal... Below are the points I like about each. Anyone got any advice about which they prefer or which to choose?

Iberostar:
Cheaper (around $800 cheaper)
Nicer beach (from what I've read)
Better ratings on tripadvisor

Royal:
Looks more swanky - jacuzzi+hammock in rooms
Closer to 5th street and the Cozumel ferry
Adults only (we're both 31)

I dont' think you can go wrong with either of these. Depends on if you want kids around or not and whether the taxi ride into town from the Iberostar would be a problem rather than walking up the block from the Royal. If it were me and I could afford it I would go with the Royal to be without kids.

Oh, the Cozumel ferry is not near the Royal. It is at the south end of town. The pier that is next to the Royal is closed and is supposed to be torn down at some point.

I'd choose the Royal because of its in town location, and the facility is newer. It's attractive, I've walked around the Royal; but it's also very popular, and way too crowded for my taste. But that's the way of all inclusives.

Thanks for all the opinions! We're going to go with The Royal, enjoy ourselves and not worry too much about the extra money Will post a trip report when we're back.
