Rio, Buenos Aires or both?

I am looking to come to SA from December 21st-January 2nd. That gives me two full weeks. Am I better spending the two weeks in one of these destinations and taking various side trips or spending one week in Rio and the other in Buenos Aires? I have never been to SA and would like to maximize my time. I will be traveling with my boyfriend as well. We like beaches and the outdoors in general. Thanks for any advice you can give!

I haven't been to Rio, but I think that there is plenty to do in and around BA for 2 weeks. Side trips to Iguazu Falls, Colonia and the Tigre Delta would give you variety from big city life in BA. In you enjoy horseback riding a day or overnight trip to an Estancia would also be fun.

If you're serious, you'd better get on it ASAP. Christmas and New Year's accomodations often get sold up to a year ahead.

This year? And you don't have reservations yet?

In any event, split the two. They are both fabulous cities and great when combined. They represent two very different countries and are only about two and a half hours apart by plane. Have fun.

hi, right, new year in Rio is one of the most expensive periods, loads of parties, hotel rates high and usually a new year package meaning you have to pay for a certain number of nights whether you use them or not. Might not be the same issue in BA. have a good think and get planning, time is short! No guarantee of continuous sun in Rio either, the weather has been crazy here, cold it will NOT be, warm or hot but may be wet. Have fun.
