Renting a house in Costa Rica-Pros and Cons

We've just returned from Costa Rica and had a wonderful time, as usual. We've travelled there frequently over the last 20 years, and thought it might be a nice change to rent a house for a longer term (a month?) in Uvita/Ojochal area next February.
Anyone had any experience, good or bad, with house rentals? Any recommendations in our preferred area? I've been surfing vrbo.com and there is such a selection, it's overwhelming! Thanks!

We are not going until April but the rental process thus far has been pleasant. What I wouldn't give for a month in the place we are renting. Have heard nothing but good things about this place.

costaricalover - Donna and Daryl manage Flying Toucans and I know they'd be happy to share info or recommend other places specific to what you're looking for as well.

We rented through vrbo for a wonderful house in Manuel Antonio. We had no trouble making the arrangements and the accommodations were better than we had anticipated. Good luck.

Security would be a top priority for me with a rental. Don't forget to check into that. It's nice knowing someone is outside watching out for you while you sleep! Sounds like a ball! Have fun!

Shillmac-the red flag has been raised regarding security. How can I be sure that the house will be secure? What questions should I be asking? This is a very good point, especially since we may be bringing down laptops, etc.
Hip, thanks for the tip re Donna and Daryl. I'll give them a shout.
