Puerto Vallarta & Vicinity
Flying in to PV at end of Feb. Looking for a nice hotel or condo complex. DH and I like to walk a lot and explore, exercise (ride bikes maybe?) and enjoy nice pool area.. We've stayed in PV, Marina area, & Sayulita. Would like to visit new area - Nuevo Vallarta or Punta Mita maybe? Mid-range price range - nice but not the Four Seasons. Feeling like I'm not sure what I want - hoping my Fodor friends can point me in a direction where they have had a great experience at a special place. Thanks!

hola, I am here now. I could help with condos but only in PV proper. I don't know anything about the outlying areas you as asking about. If you change your mind and want a nice condo in Old Town, let me know and I'll give you a list of my favorite buildings here.
Hopefully others will chime in about Nuevo or Punta Mita, but (from hanging around on this branch for years now) there aren't many PV/Mexico posters here on Fodor's. You might check the Trip Advisor forums for more input.
sincerely, Suze

Thank you Suze! We've stayed in PV proper several times and really love it - just looking for something a little different this time - but may end up there anyway. Can't go wrong! I'll let you know. Enjoy your time there! Envious of your lengthy stay!!

I am feeling lucky, 1 week down, 3 to go. I'm in two different condos this trip (one solo now, different one with sister the second half) but both are right in Old Town. In 30+ trips I've yet to stay anywhere different than this neighborhood. Just keep on coming back!

I have stayed in a few in Nuevo and we really liked the ones at dreams villamagna. You have access to 3 pools, a snack bar right at the pool that is reasonably priced and good. Very nice beach with lots of palapas. You can also watch the nightly entertainment or partake in the daily activities at no charge.
There are also very nice ones at playa royale and it is on a very great beach and walking to shops and restaurants.
Bucerias would be a good option as well and there are tonnes of restaurants and shops all right there. Can't beat the beaches outbthis way.

$500USD a month?
Sorry I don't know anything like that.
For that price range you would probably need to be on-the-ground, speak Spanish (would help), and go thru local channels to rent a basic local style apartment somewhere in a "more Mexican" neighborhood.
Or you could check on AirBnB or VBRO. Likely in that price will be further inland or north and inland in local neighborhoods or a shared space.
Vacation condo rentals in the tourist area I know of that budget is more like 1 week, not 1 month. Especially on the Southside (aka "Zona Romantica", Old Town, Emiliano Zapata colonia) anywhere near the beach is more expensive than the desired budget.
