Puerto Vallarta resort

first timers going to Puerto Vallarta end of Feb....we're checking out Plaza Pelicanos Grand Beach Resort in PV.

1. what can you share about this place?

2. can you "walk" to downtown ??(friends are staying there...want to party and visit with them - but stay at all-inclusive)

thanx.

Walking would be doable, the only safety issue would be the uneven sidewalks and cobbles.
Bus is easier 5.5 pesos each, if you want downtown, take the "Centro" bus, if you want to avoid downtown and get to the south side take a "Tunel" bus, both busses end up on the south side.

Do not understand the "safer" statement as PV is a great walking town & extremely safe. I have been out very late at night walking the streets alone after separating from friends. I have never felt in danger nor had a bad experience.

"Safer" how? I also don't understand, and I think disagree with that comment. PV is a very safe place.

It would be one very long walk or a short bus or taxi ride.

Downtown PV quite crowded there

are problems with pickpockets

for me it is an axiom that cab generally always safer

than bus or crowds in downtown areas.

I've never been pickpocketed in Puerto Vallarta, or even heard of anyone who has been. Not saying it couldn't happen, but it's not all that common. All kinds of people use the bus to get around all the time.

We were pickpocketed in Broad daylight (late afternoon) in Old town. You just have to be careful and watchful. Tourists will not hear about anything unsafe from the locals, only from other tourists. I feel it is a safe town, but you have to be watchful and not careless.

I am a tourist not a local. If I had heard of this, I certainly would share it here.

Cabron only meant unsafe due to uneven sidewalks and cobbles, not necessarily crime.

Have seen picpockets working the buses and high traffic downtown areas know several folks who have lost expensive stuff. Also safety issues with traffic.Used to be that vehicles had the right of way. Pedestrians now have the right of way - they changed the law, but they forgot to tell anyone, so take care and look before you cross. Luckily with cobbled streets, the traffic don't go too fast although some bus drivers appear to be practicing for the Mexican Gran Prix.
BEWARE. A stop sign does NOT mean that vehicles will stop, or even slow down.Always make contact with the driver, this is the best way to get them to stop EVERY time I go there.

Not very original as this is a copy and paste from http://vallartainfo.com/puerto-vallarta-info.html

Less pickpocketing here than in any other town I've lived in

Well now... that's not very nice (stealing text from someone else's website!)

Besides this poster asked about Pelicanos hotel (not about traffic, not about crime). And my comment to that is it would be too far out of downtown for my taste.

thank you suze...i just wanted to know if you could "walk" to downtown...the question did not pertain to traffic or crime. this was helpful..will not be booking the Pelicanos.

maybe we will just reserve DREAMS and take a taxi one day to downtown.
