problems booking hotel in arenal

I have been trying to book Los Lagos for a few weeks now. I called 2 weeks ago and they need a credit card signature and I can't seem to get a fax to them or email with attachment. I then tried to book through arenal.net and have only received their computer generated response that they will get back to me - that was a week ago. I really want to book this hotel and am getting discouraged. Any suggestions or knowledge of why I am not getting any response? I also tried to get onto Los Lagos website and cannot for the past week.

I also spent several weeks trying to fax Los Lagos the signature. Two phone calls later and many tries at faxing and still no luck. I did end up booking through arenal.net. They sent an auto- response and then were back to me within a few days. I had to fax the same info to them but encountered no problems. They also provided info if I would have rather sent an email attachment.
You might try to send another message to them, perhaps it got 'lost in transit' somewhere from one desk to another. I was in contact with them many times and they seemed very responsive. They also offer prebooked tours and transportation that seemed quite reasonable.
I've no idea what's going on with communications at Los Lagos but their website has been down for more than a week.
Good luck. Let us know how you make out.

If you call and ask for Manager JuanCarlos, he may be able to clear things up. Sometimes, their phone lines aren't quite up to our normal standards - could be a G1 fax on their side, talking to G3 fax on our side - although one would think this would have no effect. Could also be due to data compression over phone lines. Had a similar experience with this myself. The fax really is the best way to send the info they requested. I recommend contacting JuanCarlos before 4pm CR time.

If you'd like, I have pictures of the front of 137 and the view from the back window, toward the volcano. I can email them to you. See thread titled "Best hotel..."
Also have pictures of inside and the view of 201 - which has two queen beds, but in contrast, does not offer a view of the volcano from the bed.
Have pictures of their observation "deck" and the view it provides - - as well as the campus / grounds in general.

I went through the same thing booking at los lagos. I went through Arenal.net. It seems that they are overwhelmed over there! I had to call their office several times to make sure I was confirmed at Los Lagos. Everything did go well, but their service is slow. Dont expect an immediate response from them. I think I waited over a week and a half to get a reply! Its a costa rican thing. I was told by a hotelier there that of all the countries he has been in, CR is the hardest country to get people to be prompt and on time.

Interesting, koa. I'm now wondering if the hotelier's experience was an aberration - or was our experience an aberration? Didn't have any "prompt and on time" issues with regard to CR.
It didn't at all seem to us to be like Mexico's famous "manana time". Or, like the pace of the Virgin Islands.

But, you're on to something, here: If I were a hotel employee and if I received a fax today, I should be able to book the room today, shouldn't I?

I think with Arenal.net, they handle reservations for several hotels in Arenal. I would have rather booked directly with los lagos. I tried to go directly with them, but was directed to arenal.net

Here is the scoop so far. I finally received an email from arenal.net after a week and tried to fax them the info - no luck. So I did email it and received their computer generated response - so I guess the email got there. I am once again waiting for the personal reply confirming it all. Will let you know....
Question: Once they have confirmed it should I be worried about it?
Also, I would like to see the pictures TripleSecDelay just not sure how to.

I can email the photos to you.
If you don't already have an email account with room to spare, consider setting up a new account with Yahoo! It's FREE and you don't have to worry about somebody else spamming you after you've used that account just for the pix.
