Please compare Moon palace to Aventura Palace

Hi, I did a search for this topic and did not find anything recent. Last year we went to Aventura Spa Palace and loved it. This year we are thinking about going to Moon Palace. Has anyone been to both recently and can tell me if Moon Palace is as nice as ASP? I've read a bunch of bad reviews of MP and the main complaint is it's too big and crowded. We are thinking about going in the low season (late Sept./early Oct.) so hopefully it won't be too bad. We went to ASP in October last year and it was only about 40% full. That was great. Will Moon Palace be like this or is that resort always full? The reason we want to switch is so my husband can be closer to the golf, but if it's not as nice I don't want to stay there. I also like that there is a spa at Moon palace now. Hopefully it's as nice as the one at ASP. Sorry for the long message. We just don't want to be disappointed.

Thanks!

Hi buzzin, I have stayed at both...and I like both, but I will be honest as different things are important to different people. Moon has a long wide extensive beach but the water has alot of seaweed so most activity is poolside. As you know Aventura has the lagoon. Moon was built for groups and is huge. I didn't mind the walking and didn't ever feel crowded, except the pool area is busy because most avoid the beach. Many amenities and the look and feel is similar, although I find Aventura a little more "mexican",organic, and intimate.

Thanks so much for the response. This helps, even though I'm still having a tough time deciding! I did hear that Moon is more "Americanized".

Hi LovinLife, you should love Aventura. We had the most relaxing vacation ever. We were there with a group also (about 16) and we usually did dinners together or drinks after. I'm not sure about how lively the resort is at night. I think there is more stuff to do on the Aventura side and their lobby bar was packed when we were there. We stayed on the Spa side and usually just went to the other side for dinners. We loved the mexican place. We went there twice and the second time they changed the menu but we wanted something from the other menu and they gladly made it for us. I thought the staff everywhere was great. The waiters at the pool bars get slammed so sometimes they weren't the best, but they also work all day in the hot sun serving drunk people for little money. A lot of people did not tip and I thought it did help to tip a few bucks each day. I also thought the rooms were very nice. They aren't huge, but comfortable. The jacuzzi tub is nice and we had a nice view of the ocean. The Spa side was more quiet and relaxed than the other side. We preferred that. I would also recommend asking for a room on the top floor for a better view. I'm still undecided if we want to stay at the Moon Palace or not because we had such a good time at ASP. Have fun!
