Peru for a week

We will be in Lima for 4days (10/21-27) wanted to go to Cuzco and Machu Picchu for 3 days. However, we have not made any arrangements airfare, tours hotel etc. Problem we can not get a reservation to MP the day we want to leave 10/26 and return to Cuzco the same day. Is there any other place of interest in Peru we can go for a couple days and return to Lima to depart back to the states.

Joadan, do you mean you cannot get the train reservation or hotel lodgings? Many hotels will get the train tickets for you. Just email a few - Kuchi Rumi is one that is known for it's customer service. I believe they run tours, etc. as part of their activities.

If not --go to Cusco, enjoy the beautiful city, take tours of all the outlying ruins - get a guide to drive you through the Sacred Valley and visit Ollantaytambo. There are many options; but I would not give up on MP just yet.

We have lodging, it is getting the train reservations. I will try and call the hotel directly and see if they are able to get us train reservations. If not we may just enjoy the city of Cuzco like you recommended.thanks

There is a huge peru forum over on trip advisor and this issue is addressed quite a bit.
Rodgigo at info@urubamba (not sure if its net or com) so check the Kuchyi Rumi website is very good at accommodating travelers with Peru rail tickets or any activites you'd need a guide for in the area.
But if you take a look at TA Peru Forum you will find his correct email address. We did not even stay there yet he was eager to help us out.

If for some reason you cannot get him & the tickets, you can still enjoy the beautiful area of Sacred Valley and Cusco. There are so many ruins to see; I'd love a week to go back and just enjoy all the smaller ones, the villages and the locals.

Good luck!

Have you checked in to staying in Ollantaytambo or Aguas Calientes one night and going to MP from there? You can take a day train from Ollanta or Cuzco to Aguas Calientes, and I understand there are more trains leaving from Ollanta than from Cuzco. We will be making that trip in Sept. - less than a month now- and are staying in Ollantaytambo, taking the early train from there, arriving back in Ollanta mid afternoon and then taking a taxi back to Cuzco.
