One week trip in June- Hondouras?
Hi everyone,
We've had awesome luck getting quality advice on this board on previous trips and decided to give it another shot! We live in Chicago and are looking for a week-long get-away that won't be too taxing travel-wise (from a time in air or jet-lag standpoint) or budget-wise ($2k or so). As far as Central/South America goes, we''ve been all over Mexico and to Costa Rica and Peru (providing that as context).
We've heard good things about Hondouras and Nicaragua but are still trying to sort things out.
We like:
Beaches (but we want more to do than just lay around)
Snorkeling (no scuba)
Hiking (after the Inca Trail I think it'll be a few years before my wife is game for anything more than day-trip hikes)
GOOD FOOD (we're spoiled in Chicago)
Good bars (but we're not into clubbing and don't need too robust of a night life)
Mountains (me more than my wife)
Reasonably nice hotels (don't have to be super-fancy)
Let's see here... Anything else? Oh, we don't speak any Spanish.
I know I'm being pretty vague here, but any advice/feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

I'd spend a few nights at Omega Lodge which is a great place for hiking, rafting, horse riding, and kayaking. From there you could cross to Roatán for some blue water time - lots of lodging options and rentals available. I've pasted links to Omega and my photo/travelogue links below. Happy trails!

Everything you are looking for can be found on the Island of Roatan, Honduras. I'm originally from Canada but have lived on Roatan for 3 years now. Check out http://roatanvortex.com for an idea of what it's like. Whether coming for a week or a lifetime you wont be disappointed.
PS You can get by just fine without knowing Spanish

I really love the casa kiwi in trujillo.been there twicw and heading down again in a couple weeks.rooms are inexpensive (32 a night for a private cabana with ac,or 9 a night for a room in hotel with ceiling fan)great food, great bar,and the friendliest staff i have ever encountered.you can get all the trips you want right from there.i suggest you check out the website casakiwi.com and see if that's someplace you would like to stay.
