We have been considering a stay at Pelican Eyes. Is there plenty to do (day trips/tours) from that resort? We love to fish, kayak, ride bikes/horses, but would also like to have at least a few tours offered to keep us on the go.

Pelican Eyes is lovely, I was there last month.
San Juan del Sur is an excellent base to visit the nearby beaches like Playa Gigante, Playa Majagual etc.

I strongly recommend you combine a half day fishing with a water taxi to these beaches.

Beautiful photos--thanks for posting. Brought back memories from our trip there a year ago. Would love to return!

Linda--there are plenty of things to do with Pelican Eyes as your base. It's a gorgeous resort, very comfortable and low key. We arranged trips from there to see the turtles hatching late at night on a beach about 1/2 hour away, and an amazing full-day trip on Christmas day to Ometepe. Our guide from the hotel (for the turtle trip), and his brother (for Ometepe) were outstanding. Although we didn't get to take the Pelican Eyes sailboat trip (it was fully booked while we were there), I heard it was fantastic. We did a daytrip on our own to Majagual Beach (we had a rental car), which was a real pleasure.

You'll love it.

The turtles arrive 'en masse' on the beach from from July through January only!
However, there usually turtles on the beach most of the dry season.
You can see them off the coast almost all year round.

We were in CR last month and saw turtles from our fishing boat. They are HUGE! We didn't do the turtle trip as they weren't coming up onto the beach yet.

We are wondering about spending some time on Big Corn Island. We are reading good things about Casa Canada and the cabinas and food at Paraiso sound interesting. Is one side of the island a lot different from the other? Does the east side get the breeze? Can we go in December or January and not get soaked or do we need to plan to go later for warm/sunny days? What other places might we considering staying?

You can see turtles in Nicaragua almost all year round, though Jan/Feb they're scarcer.
Flor near San Juan del Sur is the beach to see them.
I like Casa Iguana on Little Corn Island.
If you're coming here on vaction, look at Granada, San Juan del Sur, Ometepe, Leon.
Masayais an excellent day trip from Granada with a volcano, market and view over Laguna de Apoyo.
