Mexico Spa Resort Help
Hello... My gf and I are brainstorming some ideas for a nice decompression vacation in Mexico. We are interested in a spa-type resort, preferrably somewhere lush and tropical, and we would prefer somewhere less crowded. Well, people are okay, we just don't want the spring-breaker type scene. Upscale would be nice, even off the beaten track would be nice (we are experienced exotic travelers, we just don't know much of Mexican geography!)
Anyone here have any suggestions that they would be willing to offer? Thanks!!!

Royal Hideaway
Intercontinental Paraiso de Bonita
Ceiba del Mar
Ikal del Mar
Maroma
All of these are on the Caribbean coast of Mexico south of Cancun. It's not particularly lush, but most of these places have very abundant tropical landscaping that are beautiful with palms right down to the water's edge.

It's not lush or tropical (more like colonial), but no discussion of Mexican spas is complete unless it begins and ends with Cuernavaca...
Have fun!

Another spot for you to consider... Presidente Intercontinental Spa and Resort in Cozumel. They have a small, palapa-style spa now. Their new spa is slated to open this summer. Cozumel has a more laid back and relaxed atmosphere than some of the spots mentioned above (except Maroma!). There is great snorkeling available right on the Presidente property. It's a beautiful and peaceful spot. And, the people are genuine and friendly - the service is outstanding.

No offense to you lomayalo, but the IC Presidente is not really a spa type resort (have stayed there for ten years in a row) and Cozumel is far more crowded than any of the other places mentioned.
The island can get 10 to 15 cruise ships a day once in awhile now, and with all of the development and craziness, Coz is unfortunately no longer off the beaten path as the op requested.
(I'm not sure where they plan to put a spa, but I'll be sure to check it out when I'm there next.)

MAROMA IS BORING!!! Yes it is a pretty hotel and it should be for the prices they charge (over $400 per night). My husband and I and four other couples spent four nights there. There is nothing to do at night. The restaurant and bar closed down at 10:00 p.m. There is nothing nearby to go to. The closest town for nightlife is 20 minutes away. The hotel does arange for water actitivites and tours (some way too expensive, but it is the same thing that every other hotel on the Cancun strip offers.
