mayan palace cancun - time share??

Has anyone stayed at the brand new Mayan Palace Cancun along the Mexican Riviera? It is not associated with the other Palace resorts in Cancun and is not all inclusive. I am pretty sure it is a time share because it has one and two bedroom units along with hotel rooms. It is located about 10 minutes north of Playa del Carmen.

I guess I mostly want reassurance that it is nice and has a good beach and not still totally under construction.

Thanks for any information!!

Judy

I saw a trip report on http://mytravelboard.com
This resort is still under major construction. They even have pictures up on that report. I personally don't like the looks of this resort, the buildings look like a motel! A 3 story motel! Even the rooms don't look like anything great, check it out for yourself!

That report was a few days ago, so you need to do a search on that board just type in Mayan Palace and you will get a bunch of info.

Thanks for the website! Lots of talk about the Mayan Palace there. Too bad they don't have a search like Fodor's because it did take a while to find it.
My biggest concern is the beach. If anyone knows if they have improved it, I would love to know. I don't think I could handle not being able to go in the ocean!!

I read a message today on a board from a guy who was there last week. He said they were cleaning up the rocks form the beach when he was there. I also know it is still under construction, but being a time-share member from Mayan Palace in Acapulco I know the quality of their timeshares. Excellent furnishings and courteous staff.

We've been offered a week at the Mayan Palace in June for $800. It sounded very nice, but our major concern also is the beach. Is it pretty much rock and coral free? Is it safe (current free) for small children. Is it free of seaweed? The beach is always one of our top priorities. Please let me know what you learn and I will do the same. Thanks

Where did you find information about the Mayan Palace on htt;://mytravelboard.com? I can't seem to find it. You're right, the site is difficult to find specific information. Thanks

Patti,
Don't pay $800 for one week!! It depends on the size of the unit but the two bedroom should be less than $500.
We are staying in a hotel room (no kitchen) for $230.00 for the week.

I sure am happy to read that they are starting to improve the beach. Hopefully, it will be completed before April. (That's when I'm going)
The best site I found for information on the resort is: http://www.playadelcarmeninfo.com/
Click on forums on the top bar, then all inclusives (I know it isn't an all inclusive - don't ask me why it is under that). once you are in there you will see Mayan Palace trip reports. Happy reading!

Judy
