Making the Most of Iguazu
2 nights at the Sheraton in November:
One afternoon followed by one full day.
Already have visa for Brazil.
How best to organize time and make the most of this trip to Iguazu?
Thank you for your ideas.

You should make the Devil's Throat a top priority. After that, see the upper circuit and/or lower circuit. You can do all of these on your own.
If you might be interested in commercial eco-tourism and adventure rides, there are a lot of choices here <www.iguazujunglexplorer.com/ingles_home.htm>.
I cant vouch for these as I did not try any of them. Just know that they are available.

Have you seen Iguazu from the Brazilian side? When might be the best time to visit and how much time to spend there?
All said, do you think I've left enough time for Iguazu?
BTW: Thank you for the Jungle Explorer link.

No I haven't. It was the issue of a Brazilian visa for about $90 USD for one visit.
When might be the best time to visit and how much time to spend there?
We spent two full days and two nights and we had plenty of time. April was warm but not unbearable. Bugs were not a problem either. Wouldn't want to try it during the summer, though.

Probably, but we did not go to the Brazilian side. Two days was sufficient to see the Argentina side. Three days would not be too much either. You won't be bored.

You are very welcome! It's another option. But, as I said, the Devil's Throat, upper circuit and lower circuit are all self-paced. You just walk along the cat walks, stop and take pictures wherever and whenever you want. The National Park has it's own web site <http://www.iguazuargentina.com/> which is also a good source of information.
You'll have a great time. Just make sure to bring your (digital) camera and big memory cards.

It sounds like you will have very similar amount of time in Iguazu as we do. We plan to do the upper and lower circuits on our own - one the afternoon we arrive and the other the morning we leave. On our full day we plan to go to the Brazilian side (we still have a valid visa from 3 years ago when we were in Rio). Since there are four of us, we plan to have a driver pick us up and take us across the border. Our travel agent told us about an experience he did there called the Macuco Safari (website: http://www.macucosafari.com.br/ingles/home.html). You see some of the jungle on your way to the river and then take a boat right up to the falls. We are also hoping to do a helicopter flight over the falls which you can only do from the Brazilian side. Unfortunately it seems that you can't book ahead of time (although I am going to double check that) and the wait can be substantial. So we may run out of time to do that. Hope this helps.

hiya, right, you can do the boat trip from either the argentine side or the Brasilian side, from the argentine side it goes from the lower circuit, and then goes to the falls and you come back thru the jungle.
As for the helicopter ride, it's from the Brasilian side and now no longer goes as close to the falls as it used to, you get more of a view from above so it doesnt frighten the wildlife any more. There is a bird park just opposite the helicopter park and there are many beautiful birds and also animals there, an aviary that you walk in and the birds are around you, really lovely.

I was just there last week for the same amount of time. I wish I had had one more day. I fell in love with it. We did the upper circuit the first afternoon and lower and the island in the morning, boat ride under the falls (you will get soaked) and then took the train to the devils throat. Never seen anything quite so powerful. Hired a drive for the nite $30 us and he took us into town showed us some sights and was very young and enthusiastic. I've misplaced his card, but the sheraton could call him for you..I think his name was Bermudez Stephen. The little monkeys, toucans and a multitude of other amazing birds and lizards and one alligator all made for a spectacular vist.

I highly recommend www.iguazuforest.com for adventure tourism! The canopy zip line is extraordinary and rappelling down the side of one of the falls was an adventure to remember forever! All for 85 pesos including pick up and return to your hotel.
Inside the park (Iguazu) for 120 pesos there is a day pass that includes a ride out under the falls as well as a more leisurely rubber raft trip that will take you past crocodiles, tucans, monkeys and various types of tropical fish...Highly recommended.
I was in something of a hurry and used a private driver to take me various places...airport transfers, trips over to Brazil and so forth.Luchi is bilingual and very competent as a guide and driver. local number 15441090

We spent 2 days and nights at the Sheraton in late September 2007. We took the first LAN flight from BA to Iguazu (BTW, the first Aerolineas flight got cancelled) and got picked up/transferred to the hotel (US$15). Once checked in, we made arrangements at the hotel for the jungle tour/speed boat ride that afternoon (US$30pp) and a 6 hr. tour of the Brazilian side of the falls (US$70pp). The jungle tour was OK but the speed boat ride up the rapids and near the falls was spectacular. Get ready to be soaked! The ride dropped us off at the bottom of the lower falls circuit, so we walked it back to the hotel and change out of wet clothes. We then walked the upper circuit of the falls. The next day, we met our driver and visited the Brazilian side of the falls. We were told that as long as we didn't stray too far from the park, we didn't need a visa (US$100). We had no problem crossing the border. You get a totally different perspective of the falls from the Brazilian side, and we walked the entire circuit. We then decided to visit the bird park instead of take a helicopter ride. We enjoyed our trip to Brazil and highly recommend it. When we returned to the Sheraton, we took the train to visit Devil's Throat on the Argentina side. So in our short visit, we saw all of the Iguazu parks and didn't feel rushed. We visited Iguazu during a full moon so we hesitantly signed up for the moon walk/dinner (US$20pp). Hesitantly because it sounded so touristy. But it was impressive to view the Devil's Throat in the moonlight. And the buffet dinner wasn't half bad because of the all you can eat parilla!
