Looking for Westin Regina Puerto Vallarta Comments
My Hubby and Daughters, 6 and 9 are planning to stay at the Westin Regina Resort in Puerto Vallarta in April 2004. Please send comments about the best rooms, the resort, must-see-spots and favorite restaurants. Will we be mobbed with college kids on Spring Break? Thanks for your help!

I love PV and have spent alot of time there, don't have any exact answers but a couple impressions I'll share...
College kids on spring break can afford the Westin!! Maybe I'm wrong, but I think you find that kind of thing more in the cheaper all-inclusive packaged resorts.
What kinds of restaurants are you looking for? There's literally hundreds in PV, so let us know price range, atmosphere, kind of food you're looking for.

One of my favourite restaurants in PV is Pipi's. This was a few years ago so you might want to ask around but they made their own guac at your table and everything there was so good!
Enjoy your time in PV - it's a wonderful city to visit!

Hi Heaven,
A little long but lots of info.
My husband and I and daughers, 6 and 11 just stayed at the Westin Regina in Puerto Vallarta at the end of August and we loved it! The resort is in the Marina area, not in the town. However, the taxi ride is only about $4.50 to the "Malecon" in town or you can hop on the bus "camion" in front of the hotel for about 30 cents per person. In addition, Marina Vallarta has its own "Malecon", with shops and restaurants which is a 5 minute walk from the Westin. For me, the location was excellent. We had an ocean view room (not royal beach club) on the top floor in the main building. It was perfect as we had a view of both the ocean and the town. We were able to see the nightly fireworks in town as well as the ones from the pirate ship in the bay, a special treat. The rooms were fairly comfortable, bathrooms had both a luxurios shower and a tub. Great when in a rush to have one girl in the tub and other in shower. The hotel offered complimentary 3 hours of children's camp - great for some adult alone time and kids ate free at the main restaurant(not Garibaldi's). Garibaldi's is expensive but the food was good. The hotel Restaurant prices are expensive comparable to US. Better to eat outside - there are many great recommendations on this site. There are four pools with different depths (no lap pools). Bring your own floats; they are expensive to rent/buy. We enjoyed the swim-up bar for late afternoon snacks. The beach in front of the hotel is small and public but not crowded (at least in August). The surf seemed rough at first two days but then the surf calmed and it was nice for rest of the vacation, we could actually see fish in the water. Visit the turtle hatchery on hotel grounds by the beach, hopefully you will be lucky and see new hatchlings which are released at sunset.
Must do - Trip to Caletas (Vallarta Adventures), Walk the Malecon in town. Walk the old town.
Check out - the pirate cruise, rhytmms of the night cruise, day trip to Bucerias. Eat a "La Bodeguita del Medio" (cuban) and sign your name on the wall.

You will all have a wonderful time.

Thanks so much for the great info so far! I noted some great restaurants from other postings. Pipi's is on my list. I'll run out and get some floaty things right away. Great idea! Anything else I should bring there with us? Do you guys have any other info about not-to-miss sites to see? What about shopping? What should I be SURE to bring home? Favorite beaches? Do you have a fav guide book to reccommend? Thanks!

Once you are in town, buy a copy of the magazine "Vallarta Lifestyles" for 35 peso. Pick up the free English language newspaper that is given out sometimes at the airport, your hotel, or shops and restaurants around town.
There's a Tourist Bureau office kitty-corner across from the main Cathedral off the town square (El Centro)in the government building. They have tons of free info & maps.
Shopping, just go into town, on Morelos & Juarez (parallel streets behind the Malecon) and Basilo Badillo, south of the river.
What to buy? I always bring back blankets & sarongs that I buy from beach vendors. Just depends what you want.
