Yes , have stayed at Villas Nicolas .... It is a sweet , charming , friendly place . Great pool area , perfect for evening coctails . The rooms are huge and nice with a lot of character and equally huge decks with great views of jungle and sea.( most ) walking distance to a lot of great eating spots ( Karolas , Cafe Milagro , Si Como No ,barba Roja etc. ) . You could hear a bit of local traffic from V.N. , but only during the day and early evening , then I find it's quieter . It was never an issue for me , but others have mentioned it . I would go with Villas Nicolas simply because I know it's sweet and I love the views ..... But that's me !! The other place is cute .

I like the look of it as well , there is another place called " Baballoos " or something like that , looks nice as well . There are actually lots of cool places to stay .

No , not the same place at all . The Vela Bar restaurant used to be a great little spot to eat with a small but yummy menu . If u r at La Posada u will need to cab it or bus it up the hill to the restaurant of your choice as most are on the hill where the majority of the hotels are . Both these transportation options are inexpensive ....

Having not seen the MA area, I am curious as to how difficult it would be to get to some decent restaurants (i.e. Karola's, Marlin, Ronny's etc) from Las Posada. Are there any near by, or are they all up "on the hill". In that regard, how high is this hill???? Can one walk or does one have to have transportation???

Vela Bar restaurant is close by , not sure what it;s like now ...?? No , you will not walk this to the restaurants . Maybe for some kind of hike , but there is really no point in that , buses and cars whooshing by on a twisting , steep , curving , narrow road with the jungle directly at the edge and no side to the road !!!! NEVER at nite ! You will have to hail a passing orange cab ( cheaper than calling one )or hop on the bus which passes every 1/2 hour .... Most of the restaurants are up on the hill on the road that runs from Quepos to the beach . While I myself found this hotel interesting , I find staying down on the loop by the beach a bit out of the way . But YOU might love it !!

go on the maqbeach.com website , scroll down their page to where it says " maps " , you can click on the diff. areas to see where the hotels are ( areas are Quepos , Manuel Antonio and Espadilla I think ) Gives a better idea of layout !

albertabob: I think I responded to you on the other forum re: Posada but not sure so repost if you'd like more info. Not to worry about V-Nic, they are all owned by private individuals (title held etc.) so they won't be out of business or relocated when you arrive. As faithie stated, cabs are SO common and it's just as easy to catch one (or call) and then all members of your party can enjoy their sunset cocktails! Ronnie's is definitely off the beaten path. You'll need to cab it to that one.

faithie: Thanks for reminding me to try Vela Bar again. I also remember the "good ol' Vela Bar" days and wondering (as you are) if it's just as good. We have friends in town straight thru to October 1 ... and WILL get there this time! Will post thereafter.
