Isla Mujeres Accommodations
We are considering Isla for a week. We would like nice accommodations on a beach we can sun and swim on. We don't mind if there is coral in the water as long as there is a spot to get through. Rolondis is a bit expensive - we were hoping to stay more in the 150-175 range (or lower if possible). Were considering Hotel Secreto and Na Balam. Any suggestions??

We spent a went in Isla a bout 2 years ago. If you like uncrowded beaches and low key tourism, not much action. Quiet streets at night. We loved it. I do remember seeing Na Balam. Looks like a real nice place and on the best beach no doubt. Depends what you want. We stayed at Posada Real. A clean place but not fancy. But is was a steal at about $65/night. It had tile floors, nice size room, AC. No fridge as I recall or that many extras but it worked great for us because we spent all of our time at the beach or eating out at night. The north beach is the one you will want to be at. Rent a couple of chairs & an unbrella for $6/day and have a waiter walk out to you and serve you munchies and drinks all day. I think they were from the Na Balam staff. Have a great trip.
We spent a week on Isla Mujeres a couple of weeks ago. You're right - Rolandis looks amazing, but it's expensive. Na Balam is right on the beach. Looks nice as well. I met a couple of young women who were staying at Secreto. They had just arrived and seemed to like it. The isla board is www.isla-mujeres.net. They have a very active forum.

Na Balam is directly on North Beach...it is great! There are only three places on the beach to stay in. The other is Maria del Mar which is very nice and clean but not fancy at all. The other is a condo - Nautibeach. They rent two bedroom condos by the night, week or month. For great info there is a wonderful site and you can go to it at: www.isla-mujeres.net
Extremely informative and a great message board with islamaniacs!!

Thanks eveyone. I have been to the message board at that site and searched based on the hotel names. The is actually very little usable info regarding these specific hotels. Everyone seems to get into personal conversations somewhere in the string. Not that there's anything wrong with that and a lot can be learned about IM in general from it. It's just hard to get specific info and it's a little intimidating to someone who is new - these people obviously know each other quite well! Thanks again!!

We were there for a week and stayed at NaBalaam. The room was clean and large, A/C was spotty. Restaurant and beach bar/restaurant was great. They had the best ceviche on the island.
Beach was wonderful. No coral to dodge.
Maria del Mar is right down the block
and supposedly as good for less $$.
I would certainly recommend the North end of the island.
