Identifying radio taxis and remises in Buenos Aires

After reading lots of advice on taking only radio taxis and wondering how to identify them, I now understand they (a) say Radio Taxi on the side and (b) have a light on top. Si? No? But no clue on identifying remises, which I read are like regular cars, but aren't. And where do remises hang out at Ezeiza -- near the radio taxis? No biggie, just curious. It's probably easy when you get there.

You are correct. Radio Taxis say Radio
Taxi on the side. This rule applies everywhere except Ezeiza. If you take a cab at EZE, you will need to go to the blue and white booth in the main reception area. Do not take any cab from the curb outside, radio or otherwise.

A remis is a private car. They are not identifiable from the street. There are booths in the airport as you exit customs...World and ManuelTienda Leon are the two I have used....

You are right. It is easy when you get there.

Buen viaje.

Keep in mind, that as Avrooster has pointed out on other threads, taking a radio taxi is irrelevant if you're simply flagging one down or picking it up at a taxi stand. When we recommend taking a radio taxi, we're recommending calling their dispatch center and ordering a taxi, so that there's a dispatch record of who picked you up, where they picked you up, what time, where they were taking you too, and what time they say they dropped you off - that way if there's any problems, or complaints later on, there's a record to go back to. If you just hail a cab on the street, you have none of that protection. On the other hand, I'd say most of us don't go to the trouble to make the call, etc., except late at night or when going to or from a more "questionable" area.

Our hotel arranged for a remis to pick us up and EZE and drive us to the hotel. They also arranged for the reverse when we left. Worked very well. Both drivers were excellent. The hotel also arranged for cabs when we left from there. We did use cabs a few times while we were out and managed to find Radio Taxis when we needed them. Maybe we were just lucky, but we had no problems.

I suppose you could look at it as a matter of luck, but in reality, it's probably more a matter of bad luck when something does happen. It's actually pretty rare, and problems with drivers here probably don't happen any more often than they do in any major city in the world. It's just, of course, some folks like to play up the negatives when they happen...

Hi
So far we are managing just fine with the taxis with Radio Taxi lights on the roof, although twice we grabbed the first empty cab and doubt that it was a Radio Cab but we were fine.
We ended up taking VIP at the airport, they were great, we had a lot of heavy lugggage and a dog, no one wants dogs in their cars so I am happy with VIP because they brought poor pup out of Airport hell into the city with no extra charge.
