Iberostar Tucan/Quetzal Upgrades, Dinner Reservations?

Taking our extended family to Playa del Carmen for Christmas (four teens, four adults). This will be our first stay at an all-inclusive and we used Liberty Travel to book our trip. I see on Tripadvisor that others were offered an upgrade just prior to arrival or at check-in. Is this worth doing? Also, they mention making reservations at the restaurants--do I do that or should our travel agency? Any other advice for this trip would be welcome.

Dependant on budget of course

upgrades tend to be wise

as you get priority on everything

True especially in high season with many lines/people

on Iberostar and Paradisus properties..

The only upgrade at the Tucan/Quetzal would be to a Jr. Suite which is really no big deal. The room is only about three feet longer than a standard room...not a true suite.
You can not make your dinner reservations until you get there, but make them as soon as you get there. You will get three ala carte dinner reservations for a seven night stay. The rest of your meal will be buffets. You can be put on a waiting list for more ala carte dinners.
Go to this site for all you will ever want to know about his resort:
