How long should we spend it Monteverde??
Hi Friends!
I am planning a 2 week trip in Costa Rica between Arenal, Monteverde and Manuel Antonio. I was planning on doing 4 nights Arenal, 3 nights Monteverde and 4 nights in Manuel Antonio, but now i fear that 3 nights in Monteverde may be too much and we'll get bored as there is not much to do.
Do you think 3 nights in Monteverde and 5 nights in Manuel Antonio is better?
Also, any hotel reccs for Monteverde?

We like Fonda Vela's newer junior suites. The hotel is one of the closest to the Reserve and has nice grounds and a good restaurant on site. We saw toucans on the property. Our room had a bathtub, small frig, and a nice view of the gardens. We stayed three nights, but we could have done it in two; we just built in a little time to relax. We ziplined, did a guided hike of the Reserve to see quetzals, and did an awesome night hike at Hidden Valley. We had cold rainy weather there at night, had to wear sweatshirts and fleece jackets with rain ponchos, so pack something warm just in case.

There's plenty to do for 3 days at Monteverde - hiking in MV and Santa Elena reserves along with night hikes offered at Children's Eternal Forest and others. There's ziplining, the hummingbird gallery, some good restaurants, coffee tours, frog and bat tours. We found Santa Elena reserve to be less crowded (and higher altitude) than MV, but spotted quetzals in both reserves.
We stayed 4 nights at Arco Iris which we really liked but could have done it all in 3 nights. White faced capuchins were in the trees outside the breakfast room, nice cabins, walk to restaurants, but the grounds are really large so doesn't seem like you are in town.
Make sure to hire guides for your hikes. They will find all sorts of birds, animals and plants that you would miss on your own.
There is a beautiful orchid garden right next door to Arco Iris, little hidden gem, stop by Stella's Bakery for a great lunch, good shopping across the street at CASEM, a women's co-op. The ice cream at Sabodore's (sp?) was really good, too.
