How does this itinerary sound for Cancun?
Hello all!
My fiance and I will be honeymooning in Cancun from Wednesday, June 15 - Monday, June 20th. Originally, we were going to stay in the area for 9 nights but we have cut the trip shorter to save $$.
Here is what we think we want to do while we're there. We'll be arriving at the airport on the 15th at 1:48 PM and leaving on the 20th at 2:50 PM. We'll be staying at the JW Marriott, which we're very thrilled about.
Can you all let me know if my itinerary is too ambitious???
Wednesday, 15th - Arrive in Cancun. Check-in; hang by the pool; couples massage at JW's spa; dinner at La Habichuela; relax at night.
Thursday, 16th - Chichen Itza
Friday, 17th - Isla Mujeres and Tulum
Saturday, 18th - Shopping and exploring downtown Cancun
Sunday, 19th - Merida
Monday, 20th - enjoy the pool some more at the hotel; say goodbye to Cancun.
Can/should we do Tulum and Isla Mujeres on the same day? Or should we do Tulum on Saturday with downtown Cancun?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance

I think you are trying to do WAY too much in this short period of time. Your entire trip will be a blur when you get home! I live in Cozumel and am familiar with all the distances of the places you want to see. I know you are afraid of missing something, but honestly, you can't do all that you have planned.
If you are doing Chichen Itza, you could pass on Tulum. Go to Isla Mujeres instead, and you CANNOT do both Isla and Tulum in one day, it would be almost impossible.
Merida is also extremely ambitious. I would not do that on a day trip, better to spend at least one night there. You won't have enough time to see anything and that's not worth the long trip there just to turn around and come right back. I would pass on Merida, even though it's a wonderful city that I love. But not for a day trip. Come back when you can spend more time there.
Also, you arrive at 1:48pm. Don't expect to be at your hotel before 3:30 or later. And on the return, you have to be at the airport now 3 hours before your flight.
Shopping in the hotel zone in CAncun is just like being in the U.S., not much difference. You might as well shop in Miami, the prices will be cheaper there than Cancun. Shopping in downtown requires some knowledge of the city to know where to go, it's a huge city. Do your shopping in Isla while you are strolling the streets. And rent a golf cart to drive around the island.
Sounds like you don't want to spend too much time in Cancun, so you might enjoy a day trip to Playa del Carmen. It's only an hour away.
Good luck and have a great trip!

I'd skip Merida and spend a day goign to Tulum and Playa del Carmen. The ruins at Tulum are interesting, but much less spectacular than Chichen Itza, unless you're really into ruins, you might not wish to see both.
On our one and only trip to Cancun we ended up heading to Isla Mujeres on several days, more our kind of place than all the concrete in Cancun.

CozAnnie's advice was right on target. You're doing way too much in a short period of time. Also, after a wedding and all that pre-wedding planning stress, you should relax and enjoy the perfect beach and the magnificent pool at the JW. Plan perhaps 1 trip type activity, and don't make it the shopping. Personally I don't like the flea-markets of downtown Cancun: depressing! You can always go back to Cancun for your first anniversary celebration! Congratulations! You're wished much happiness in your new life together.

Good Choice on the JW and Las Habicuelas!
I agree with others that you're trying to do too much!
In such a short trip, I would skip Chichen Itza and Merida, and save it for another time when you have more time!
Isla and Tulum are in opposite directions, and would be 2 different day trips...but these are the 2 daytrips I'd choose in a 5 day period.
You could combine Tulum and Playa del Carmen in one day. (Tulum during the day, and then visit the restaurants of 5th Avenue in PDC in the evening.)

I mostly agree with comments above; probably would choose C. Itza over Tulum for ruins.
One suggestion would be a stop in Valladolid en route to or from C. Itza. This would allow you to see some colonial architecture without going to Merida.
