How do you arrange rental car pickup at your hotel?

Maybe a basic question... in CR let's say I take a taxi from the airport to a hotel. I want to rent a car the next morning and have it at the hotel. Do I work with the hotel to arrange that or the rental car company?

We did this and arranged it with the rental car company. We had a driver take us from San Jose to Arenal and didn't want to deal with all of our luggage at the rental car office and knew we wouldn't need a vehicle to hold luggage (we had 6 people and luggage). We just wanted the vehicle to get around while in Arenal. So we worked it all out with the rental car company. They met us at the hotel on the day we checked in and picked the car up there on the day we checked out. There was an additional fee, but it was worth it for us. We used Mapache.

We arranged it with the rental car company (Tricolor) when staying near SJO.

When we stayed near Nosara, we arranged it through our lodge.

Arrange it with the rental car office when you arrange your rental car; Europcar brought the car and picked it up for no extra charge. It was very smooth.

You know, I think the only reason we had an extra charge on our rental drop off is because we were staying at Arenal Observatory Lodge and it's a bit off the beaten path so to speak....most of the other hotels in the area would have been no extra charge for the rental drop off if I remember correctly.

Anyway....just wanted to mention that, now that I've read some of the other responses!
