Honeymoon in Mexico

Hi....Does anyone know of a good honeymoon spot in Mexico? I'm sure there are a lot. So to help narrow it down, here is some info: My fiancé and I will be taking our honeymoon in October 2005. We are looking for something somewhat secluded and very romantic with beaches, but where there are still things to see and stuff to do. Also, good food is very important.

Puerto Vallarta, doing a combination of time downtown for fantastic restaurants and lots to see & to do, then maybe somewhere north along the coast for smaller towns and beaches. Both would be very romantic IMO.

On the west coast Zijuat/Ixtapa might be another idea. Or the Playa del Carmen area south of Cancun on the Caribbean side.

There are a few great honeymoon spots.
South of Cancun (completely different from Cancun) are some small exclusive hotels.
Maroma
Ikal del Mar
Parisio de la Bonita
Azulik
Start there; if you need more ideas let us know.

A couple of my friends honeymooned on the Mayan Riviera and loved it so much they returned a few years later for an anniversary. They booked their honeymoon through Sun Trips, who, though known for their bare-bones budget trips, also book luxury all-inclusive packages. The package my friends had was all-inclusive, including freedom to use all facilities at a few surrounding sister resorts (so they never got tired of the same restaurants and bars at their hotel). From what I hear, there was never a lack of something going on, as they were near Cancun and had access to all sorts of day trips and activities through the resort concierge.

If the kind of beach and ocean is important for you, I'd vote for the east coast somewhere down from Cancun (turquoise water, white sand, smoother beaches). I love PV, but typically the west coast beaches are not as picture perfect (often narrow, coves, rocky, rougher more murky water).

If you want romance, stay at La Casa Que Canta in On the west coast Zijuatenjo. We just got back from our honeymoon and we never wanted to leave. However, there is no immediate access to the beach, you have to walk down. We didn't care--the pool is incredible. We loved Zijua.

We also flew up to Puerto Vallarta--still loved the pristiness of Zihua.

Bucerias-just outside of Puerta Vallarta
is also a good place and more secluded than Puerto Vallarta, and there are some beach front restaurants there, but I am not sure if there are any hotels directly in Bucerias, it seems to me it was a small residential area with just a few houses.

You can check this site, maybe you can find something there:

I've found a GREAT site that offers free full color maps (in PDF format) of Puerto Vallarta and almost every other area in Mexico. Check it out!

Heres our favorite Mexico website -- A couple of "honeymoon hotels" - Casa que Canta, Villa del Sol, Maroma, El Tamarindo, Costa Careyes --- I think most have links through a different world..... I found the web site through dailycandy.com - Really great!!!!

I'm not sure what your budget is... but there are some beautiful and romantic hotels in Los Cabos... with great food. Las Ventanas, One & Only Palmilla, and Esperanza. They are pretty pricey though.
