Help with perfect/balanced itinerary in Belize
Hi Everyone,
My husband and I are planning a week long trip to Belize in December between Christmas and New Years and would love some help choosing where to stay based on our interests as the trip is short and we don't want to waste time. We are MAJOR nature, wildlife and beach lovers and would love recommendations for areas to stay in where we can lounge on the beach, snorkel as well as hike in the jungle and see some Mayan history. We can definitely split the trip between 2 destinations within Belize (think more than that may be too rushed). Please advise for beach as well as forest destinations. Off the beaten path is ok, but keep in mind the short duration of our trip.
Thank you!

A common 1st visit split starts in the San Ignacio area for Maya sites, jungle, and caving. Here are 2 jungly places we've loved:
https://www.chaacreek.com/accommodat...budget-casitas
www.duplooys.com
Then for a quick trip I'd choose between Ambergris Caye or Caye Caulker (we prefer Caulker). There are beachy options on the mainland further south but then you're farther from the Maya sites and caves AND farther from the reef for snorkel trips. Here’s a link from an old forum thread I like with good descriptions of beachy options in Belize:

If you don't have one already, in my opinion you should get your hands on a guidebook and devour it, even an older 1 from your local library would work. They have good historical and cultural background sections and suggested itineraries in addition to travel, food, and lodging specifics. When you have a better idea of what you’re wanting, you can get more updated info from the internet and come back with more specific questions so we can help you better.
In the mean time here's a link to my photos with blog, travelogue, and review links on the main page of each collection - all my recommendations are embedded there.
Happy planning!

You could also look at staying at Lamanai Outpost Lodge for your inland portion. There's good wildlife viewing on the boat rides to and from the lodge as well as around the lodge and ruins. The Lamanai archaeological site is within walking distance of the lodge.

We loved the Lamanai Outpost Lodge too - the ruins right next to the lodge were spectacular. The river boat ride in was great, and we saw howler monkeys daily. Food and service were very good too.
We also really like Victoria House on Ambergris - close boat ride to the amazing snorkeling at Hol Chan. Saw nurse sharks, beautiful colorful fish, sea turtles, and huge rays.
Have stayed at Chaa Creek too and enjoyed that.
