Help with Itineary
We are planning trip to Argentina in Oct-Nov 2008 for 2 weeks or so (10-14 days).
Since there are so many things to see and we have only a few days we need to make tough choices.
(1)
If one has to choose between spending three days in Salta or crossing to Chile from Calafate and spending 2 days in National Park Torres del Paine. What would be the choice ?
(2) If we need to drop a place due to time considerations, should we cut a trip to Salta short by a day, skip Iguazu, skip Ushuaia ???

Hi Guys,
We're also planning our first trip to BA for 10 days in early November. We've decided on the two night trip to Iguazu because it looks like it might rival Victoria Falls and who knows when we can get there! We plan to stay the first six days in Palermo (we just requested availability at Home Hotel) and the last three nights in the San Telmo area. We're doing most planning on our own, as we usually do, and hoping to get a real feel for the country. Our friends who have gone rave about Argentina. Good luck!

It depends on your interest...we've done both (two separate trips). If you want to see the desert/cactus, etc. with interesting culture, go to Salta.
If you want to see amazing glaciers and scenery, go to the Torres del Paine.
You might want to check the temperture reports for that time of year. We went to the TDP in March, it was very cold and windy. Salta in March was nice and warm/sunny. I don't know what the weather conditions are in Oct/Nov.
We were blown away by both places, but if I did have to pick one over the other, I would probably go the TDP, it really is magnificent.
Happy travelling.

Salta and the NW deserves a visit and you will never regret... You need at least four or five full days, but It is completelly diferento to what you can see in the rest of Argentina.
And Argentina is so huge that it deserves more than one visit. The NW has amazing sceneries, great food, wonderful wines, nice people, adn it is cheaper compared with other places.

Jake,
agreeing with owlwoman. I also visited both places (in oct/nov)and loved them both. To me I spent more time exploring the north so 3 days doesn't seem like very much time.
Two days in Torres Del Paine seems great, you will have awesome views, get to see lots of wildlife and have some of the most incredible hiking. Make sure to factor in the time needed to get there/away and possible delays at the border between Chile and Argentina.
