Driving or Flying from Tortuguero?

We are trying to figure out transportation from Tortuguero to La Fortuna area and need some help. Should we take an early morning flight from Tortuguero (7:30 am) to San Jose/Pavas and then have a driver take us up to La Fortuna/Arenal? Or would it be better to skip the flight and have a driver pick us up in Guapiles at 1pm where the hotel said they could drop us off? How far is the drive from Guapiles to La Fortuna? How far is the drive from San Jose/Pavas to La Fortuna? I keep finding different answers to these questions online so I'm really confused at this point. Thanks for your help!!!

The driver from San Jose to La Fortuna is about 3 hours.

We had a private driver from Arenal to Cano Blanco, our pickup spot for the boat to Tortuguero. I think it was about a 4 hour drive.

hi broadway79

in the africa forum i argue against taking flights from park to park (for very good reasons IMO )
in this case i recommend the flight, since i loved the view, perspective and photos of the forest, canals and the caribbean coast from the air.

also you usually return in the same way you came (mostly through Cano Blanco) though for a group, i managed to come through a different route by boat...

bon Voyage

I liked doing the boat in and flying out; boating in we got to see a lot of the area, as well as come roseate spoonbills, big crocs, blue morphos, etc. Flying out was nice because it got us to our next destination more quickly. Agree it was neat to see it from the air as well.

We flew in and took the boat out so we could spend more time at the resort. The plane (Sansa) gets in around 9:00 am.
