I will be taking a cruise this year and Belize City is one of the ports of call. Apart from tours arranged by the cruise line what could a 40-something woman and friends do for the day that would be interesting and not have the feel of being "herded-around"? I personally like the water but would like to see some of the countryside. Strenuous walking is not an option. Any advice would be appreciated.<BR><BR>Thank you.

The cruise ships have all the ruins and caving areas close enough to the boat for day trips already booked. You could do independant snorkeling or diving or could visit Crooked Tree village, known for some of the best birding in the region, and cashews. Otherwise, you'll be with the herds you want to avoid.<BR><BR>Katie Valk<BR>Belize

Katie,<BR><BR>Thank you for your advice. I was just reading about Crooked Village the other day. How would I find a tour there or way to get there? Also, I have been thinking about the Baboon Sanctuary or going to Ambergris. What do you think?<BR><BR>Thanx. Joan

Ambergris would be a great place to snorkel. Taxi from marine terminal will cost you 5.00 each way, 20 min. flight to the island will be 46.50pp return, and a 2.5 hrs snorkel trip to the marine reserve and shark ray alley will be 25.00pp without gear plus 5.00pp entry fee to the marine reserve. <BR><BR>I think Sam Tilett is one of the better birding/nature guides for CT and I've been arranging trips with him with transfers, lunch and guided tour of the lagoon. It's a lovely day, nice village and make sure you don't leave the village without their roasted cashews, cashew or other fruit wine.
