Costa Rica trip planned for Thanksgiving - need ideas for good surf places
Hi,
My b/f and I have flights booked for Costa Rica over thanksgiving week. He is a big surfer, and we are looking for a place that has good surfing, and not so much rain. I know it's closer to the end of the rainy season, so we will get some rain, but are there better places than others?
Especially if we want to surf?
We are willing to get a car/shuttle from the airport to where ever we the best place is.
Any suggestions?
I'd also like a nice beach to lie around on for a couple hours.
Thanks for the help!

Where are you flying into? If Liberia, I would say Tamarindo. Lots of surf spots close by. My favorite is Playa Avellanas. Check out:

There is even a small surf hotel right at the beach called Cabinas las Olas. Fun spot with a good little restaurant and bar. Isolated if you want night life though. Plenty of places to stay in Tamarindo and it is a short drive (30 mins) to Avellanas. You can get boat trips to Ollie's and Witch's Rock also.
It is about 5 hours from San Jose though. So if you are flying into San Jose, you may want to look into the Jaco/Quepos area.
You could fly Nature Air or Sansa into Tamarindo if you don't have alot of luggage or aren't bringing boards.

Thanksgiving is a great time in Costa Rica. A lot of the closed for season places are reopened... Look into Playa Grande just north of Tamarindo.. Two great hotels to base out of are Bula Bula and Rip Jack Inn.. More quiet and relaxing than Tamarindo... If you want night time fun at clubs and bars stay in Tamarindo... Many GREAT surf spots north and south. Playa Grande, Tamarindo, Langosta, Avellanes, Playa Negra... Just to name a few... Good luck!

Thank you all!
Some more questions -
We have flights into San Jose, and I've planned some days for traveling, is it super far to Tamarindo from San Jose?
Is it easy to get around if we don't have a car? (Neither of us want to drive much) -- willing to take shuttles, cabs, etc. -- are those readily available?
Any other hotel suggestions?
Thanks again! I love recommendations!
