We would like to spend honeymoon in costa rica, between 10/17-10/30. anyone knows how the weather will be like for traveling? Fodors says it rains the heavist but seems to be less crowded and very green scenery. Can someone share your experience? Will it be torrential rain so much that is hard to travel or will it just be afternoon thunderstorms and light showers? Will there be any sites that are off the limits during the wet season?

You will want to know that October IS probably the rainiest month in most parts of the country. The rains begin to let up as the dry season approaches during the month of November.

The one area that gets less rain year round is the province of Guanacaste in the Pacific north, which also happens to be one of the favorite destinations for travellers.

In October, there will most likely be morning sun and afternoon showers, but there is more likelihood of torrential rain during this month as well.

During a 2 week stay, you will probably encounter a mix of "torrential" and "just a little" with more days experiencing only afternoon showers.

There aren't really any areas that are off limits with the exception of one particular coastal drive on the Nicoya Peninsula. However, there are areas that you wouldn't want to travel to in October--mainly the Osa Peninsula in the far south. A few of the resorts down there close during Sept. and Oct.

All that having been said, you can still have a marvelous time in this very beautiful country. Guanacaste, in particular, though dry, brown and dusty in the dry season is a gorgeous place during the rainy season. Don't let rain worries stop you. The country and its people more than make up for any rain inconveniences!

The first four times I traveled to Costa Rica it was in October. I never had a clue that it was the rainiest month and that I should even consider not going at that time. What I loved about it was the fact that I had the entire country to myself, it was green and fresh, sunny most of the time, and when I got caught in the rain, it didn't really matter since it was the tropics and I would dry in no time at all.

I live here now, and October is still my favorite month. Sssssh! Don't tell anyone or they will ALL come then!

There really is NO bad time to visit CR; any rain you experience will seem refreshing and will usually be short-lived. Good luck and have fun!

thanks you all, we just booked our tickets! so looking forward to it. I just saw CNBC talked about good deals and good destinations for upcoming season. Costa Rica is on top of the list!
