Costa Rica

Hi, retired couple considering a winter monthly rental in the Manuel Antonio area. Does anyone have any insight regarding tht area? Climate in Feb March? Rental hints? Best to fly from San Jose or Shuttle?
Thanks
Al and Dianne

Weather will be what many consider ideal---very warm, sunny, not much rain.

It's a very popular destination--you won't be isolated in nature, but rather in a heavily touristed zone.

I'd guess a high of 90ish during the day and getting into the 70s at night. There's a great national park there full of wildlife like monkeys and sloths. Lots of restaurant choices. It's a very popular spot with tourists like RAC mentioned. If you can, I'd recommend staying somewhere with some kind of security. If you fly into San Jose, it would be about a 3 hour drive to get there. You can rent a car or hire a private driver or fly - check Sansa and Nature Air. Interbus is a popular shuttle if you want to check that out.

Thanks to RAC and VolGirl....never considered the security issue as nothing I've read so far indicated any sort of problems. We'll be renting a house or villa not hotel....is security a major issue there??

The only reason I mention it is that friends of ours rented a place, and it was broken into one night while they were there. It's just something that you may want to ask about. I don't think it's a pervasive problem, but just something to consider. We felt safe in the area.

You would get more advice if you could reveal: why Manuel Antonio?, what budget?, will you cook?, what do you want to see and do?, and what your ideal rental would have? (pool, private pool, beach front, mountains, view, proximity to groceries, etc.).

Have you looked at properties through vrbo.com or something similar?
