Copa airline tickets cost to Panama and SXM

Hello,

The tickets for flying from Washington Dulles to Saint Maarten with stop over in Panama city is around 700. The ticket from Washington Dulles to Panama city only is 1100. They are the exact same date and same flights. My question is: Can I buy the ticket from Dulles to Saint Maarten with stop over in Panama city and instead of continue on to SXM stay in Panama. for the duration of the vacation. That would save me 400. Any reason why I can't do it that way ?

Thanks

It's against the airline's contract of carriage. While airline's rarely go after individuals, Copa will almost certainly cancel you return flight because you "missed" the leg to SXM. But they would also cancel and perhaps claw back any frequent flier miles for the entire itinerary as well.

In such a scenario, you would not be able to get back on your original ticket, nor would you get a discount. You could get back only by buying a new one-way ticket from SXM to Dulles at the full (undiscounted) price.

The posters in the Airlines forum really know their stuff, though Copa is a minor airline with limited routes. I'd post there if you want more information.

Sorry ... that was stupid of me. You're NOT going to SXM but staying in Panama City. So you'd have to buy a one-way ticket back from there.
