Chetumal to Caye Caulker- is it really worth it??

I am currently in Mahahual, Mexico. I'll be going to Chetumal in 2 days. My question is: Is Caye Caulker worth getting to or should I just skip it and head on over to Flores, Guatemala? I don't scuba dive (I would snorkel, though). I do love unique experiences/towns. I would take a ferry straight out to Caye Caulker from Chetumal- which I think would be a beautiful ride. I guess what I'm concerned about is the cost involved in doing all this being that I don't scuba dive. If it is fun, beautiful and not too expensive- then I will do it. I dislike major tourist traps. I've read guide books and all but would like to hear some input from those who have made the journey. Keep in mind, I'm not a party girl. Time is not an issue as I still have @7 weeks of travel left.

Being that I'll probably won't be "in the area" again for a very long time, is it worth it?

Thanks again for your help!

p.s. sorry for the scatterbrained composition here- trying to do research but it's really hard here-- the hostel I'm at right now has extremely spotty internet service and it's impossible to get much research done. My apologies if I'm repeating a frequent topic.

I like Caye Caulker. It's quiet and funky. Not much for beaches though. Nice people, good food. Not very expensive.

Since you have plenty of time, I think it would be worth a stop.

What is 'worth it' varies from person to person imo - sorry, but I don't see how we can answer that for you. It's worth it to us, though! Here's a photo set from our most recent visit:

Have a great trip, whatever you decide!
