Charming place to stay in Puerta Vallarta
We will be spending a week at the Tamarindo in July for our honeymoon. We are flying into Puerta Vallarta and renting a car there. We will be spending one night in PV and need to find somewhere to stay. Something charming because it is the first night of our honeymoon...but nothing too elaborate is needed. Any help would be much appreciated.

I would recommend Los Quatro Vientos. It's a small hotel on the hill overlooking the city. The view is incredible from the rooms (suggest getting one of the rooms on the end with extra windows), and also from the rooftop bar. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

I stayed one night in Casa Amorita, didn't like it, too much like a home. Yikes I just reread your post, first night of your honeymoon, never! Of the ones suggested I would go with Molina de Agua, but I don't really like any of them. I'll keep trying to think of one I like.

How about Casa Kimberley (former home of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton) ??<BR><BR>Not new, not on the beach, not glitzy, but very substantial. And how many places have a "love bridge" ??<BR><BR>Mark<BR><BR>BTW: Heard the place is up for sale, if you have a spare million or two laying around...

Hi! I think that Quinta Maria Cortez looks nice for you, but I believe that there is a minimum night stay. Might want to check that out. Also, you have to write back and say how you liked El Tamarindo. My honeymoon is in October and we are staying at El Careyes for 6 nights and El Tamarindo for 3, but we might change El Tamarindo for something in PV because I found out today that we have to fly out of PV rather than Manzanillo.

Thanks everyone. I will definitely look into all those suggestions. Creiheld - I will definitely let you know how the trip goes. Another poster from other threads has helped me so much. We are driving from PV down to Tamarindo adn the drive sounds quite exciting to us. There seem to be a bunch of non-touristy places on the way down. Thanks everyone!

Having stayed at Tamarindo, I would say don't give it up for 3 nights in PV! I love PV and have stayed there many times, but I think Tamarindo is a place you really must experience! Another frequent poster on this board has stayed at Careyes and Tamarino and I am sure will agree on this. I believe she is in Mexico right now, but will post when she can. She loved Tamarindo also. Please think it over--especially if this is a honeymoon trip. It is truly a special place!! Could you at least spend 2 nights there, then maybe 1 night in PV?

I am possibly Posada de Roger's biggest fan and a loyal customer (having stayed there a dozen+ times) BUT I wouldn't recommend it for the first night of a honeymoon. It can be very noisy and a bit beach-funky and stretches the meaning of "charming" but would fit "nothing too elaborate" LOL

Tamarindo is the most enchanting hotel property I have ever seen. It is about 3 1/2 hrs south of PV and about 30 min. or so north of the Manzanillo airport. Very South seas in feel, secluded property miles off the coastal highway. Each accomadation is a separate "villa"--a palapa-roofed free standing building, each has a plunge pool. the living area is open air under the palapa roof, the bedroom can be closed off and airconditioned by means of sliding walls. If you want protection from insects, but still want fresh air, there is a sliding screen door that allows you to enjoy the night air and sounds of the ocean and forest. I think it is the ultimate honeymoon destination unless you like night life, then this is not the place for you. The closest town is quite a drive and they don't recommend you driving at night--bad road, animals wandering on the highway, etc. It is probably the most magical place I have ever experienced and I recommend it without reservation, adding only it is quiet, secluded and peaceful(no TV, radios). We booked through Different World Travel(can I say that on this board?). Their website has pictures of the villas and the grounds--just remember, the pictures hardly do it justice!!

It is now a Starwood property and I found a few pictures on the Starwood site. We booked through Different World Travel who specializes in properties in Mexico and their site has many more pictures. We got a package through them that was not available directly from the hotel. Another poster on this board got a good rate by bidding on LuxuryLink. Without a package the prices are around $400/night, more or less depending on the location of the villa--beachfront is more expensive than further back. Remember, the pictures hardly do it justice--it is the most heavenly place I have ever experienced!

Then again, if you *are* just looking for a place to lay your head Hotel Azteca on Madero is very inexpensive, cute, quiet, in an 'authentic' Mexican neighborhood, about $20US/night. Favorite of the Lonely Planet-type folks. Maybe it's a 1-star, I'm not sure if that.

Hi! I'm back from Mexico...just a weeks trip to Los Barilles on the Eastcape of Baja (think Cabo 20 years ago)& 2 nights at Casa Del Mar on the Corridor. Great relaxing trip, though the string of hotels along the corridor is overwhelming with prices to match, though very nice.<BR>Now Creiheld, do not cancel Tamarindo! We enjoyed Careyes very much but Tamarindo is an absolutely perfect honeymoon destination! I would actually do 5 nights Tamarindo & 4 nights Careyes if you have 9 nights & then drive to PV to spend 1 night & fly out. Though Tamarindo is more secluded as a resort it is closer to surrounding towns to do some sightseeing in the area also. I found Careyes more isolated for day trips. Anyway, my 2 cents but Tamarindo is a wonderful experience! But as arriba said if you want night life, other than your own, then maybe PV is more to your liking but if I had to chose 1 resort along the Mexican West coast to return to, it would be Tamarindo. I will say the food was better at Careyes but the atmosphere is hard to beat at Tamarindo! Good luck!

Thanks again for more of the responses. As for Tamarindo it's easy to see why we were sold on it for our honeymoon. I'm not at my house right now but my fiance and i have found a bunch of random sites with some more pictures. We found one that has some breathtaking pictures. I will try and post them.
