Caravan Tours to Costa Rica

Has anyone traveled with Caravan Tours? I would like to hear from those who have toured with that company.

A friend of mine and her husband went with Caravan through Costa Rica this past fall. They loved the trip. She is a travel agent and has booked quite a few of her clients on the trip because she liked it so much.

www.caravan.com gets mostly good reviews budget provider nice

have seen recent mild negativity about some room not having AC

and being crammed in with a bunch of folks you do not know

daily on bus from place to place...

http://www.tauck.com/tours/latin-ame...travel-co-2010

better more expensive upscale group tours...

www.gotmyfare.com my fav for budget cheap flexible fly drives

from $500 pp

Happy Hunting,

I went to Guatemala and Honduras with Caravan two years ago. The tour was excellent. The guide and hotels were very good and meals ranged from fair to good (mostly good). They've changed the trip by eliminating the day in Honduras since I took the tour, but it still looks like a good tour to me.

I went on the Costa Rica trip last July (2010). It was the best trip I've ever had. I was worried about being on a bus tour - I thought it would be all old people and that I would feel rushed. None of this was true. People of all ages (from 10 year old children to 80 year old couples) were on the tour, and everyone got along well. The trip was well paced, the tour guide was excellent, the driver was very skilled, the hotels were terrific. Yes, the one in Tortuguera Park was not air conditioned, but it was in the middle of a national park. It was beautiful and rustic and wonderful. The food was all buffets, except the last meal, but was very good. You get a lot of black beans and plantains, but most of the food is just plain good food. I plan to take another Caravan trip soon.
