Cancun can get pretty wild if you want it to be but it can also be very relaxing and beautiful, depending on where you stay. <BR>I stayed at Le Meridien in January and thought it was fantastic in terms of location, service, facilities, pool area. The spa and fitness center only cost $10/day and they're very lavish. The food was very good and the beach location can't be beat. Cancun in July is HOT - be ready.

You might also check out ElDorado Resport and Spa located at Punta Brava, just south of Cancun and north of Playa Del Carmen. Adults only (18 and over), which is a big plus. We enjoyed it very much and found the rooms, food, and service to be excellent. There is another older ElDorado south of Playa Del Carmen, but you want to use the one at Punta Brava. I think it would be good for celebration.

Hi. My family and I are also considering going to Cancun this Summer. I am really lost. Was going to consider Moon Palace GOlf Resort until I've heard people say that beaches at the south end are dissapointing. Loads of seaweed that make the beach rather dissapointing. Being used to the beaches St. Martin, Barbados, etc .. I was really hoping for the same. I am now leaning towards JW Marriott Cancun Resort and Spa. I think it's about midway along the coast. Could anyone give me some idea about the hotel .. beach?
Thanks
Thanks

Alde2003: The beach at JW Marriott and any of the other resorts in that location is great! I've never stayed at the Marriott but I understand it is a beautiful resort. My personal recommendations in that area are the Omni, Cancun Palace and Le Meridian in that order. Enjoy your summer vacation!

1Mandy1 - Thank you so much for you rapid reply .. though now I have more choices instead of fewer. I was never a fan of "all inclusive" deals, but my wife wishes to stay put and not tool around a great deal looking for places to eat. Did you take the "all inclusive" deals at these hotels and if so, how did they fair?
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

I AM ANRA AT THE TOP OF THIS TOPIC. I MADE A MISTAKE SPELLING THE NAME. THE CORRECT NAME IS "AMRA". I HAVE MADE A MOVE. BOOKED 6 NIGHTS AT THE RITZ-CARLTON IN CANCUN. WE ARE READY TO GO. WHAT I NEED IS SOME SUGGESTIONS ON PLACES TO EAT, OUT OF THE WAY PLACES TO SHOP, ETC.. IT LOOKS LIKE THE RITZ IS ABOUT HALF WAY BETWEEN CANCUN AND PLAYA DEL CARMEN. IS THAT RIGHT? THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP.

We stayed at Marriott Casa Magna which is right next door to JW Marriott and connected by walkway. Both are very nice properties and located in heart of hotel zone. Casa Magna is expensive, JW even more so. We did not do the all inclusive program, so there was nothing, and I mean nothing, included in the room rates. Even the bottled water in the room as charged as an extra if you opened it. We felt that even though the properties are very well done and the rooms are excellent it was poor value for the money. Room rates are very high and you get nothing except the room for that price. Water sports, if you are interested, are also charged for. We were quite happy to leave the Marriott and go further south to the ElDorado Resort and Spa.
Amra, the Ritz Carlton is right in Cancun in the hotel zone, not halfway between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen. Like the Marriotts, it is located right in the heart of the hotel zone. All have good beaches but be prepared for rough water if it is windy.

Amra:
I read your latest post since you've made your choice. The Ritz is a beautiful resort. To answer your question, we always do the all inclusive. I like not having to pay for every little thing. We have not been disappointed in any of the properties where we have done the all inclusive. We also like the option of having something to eat or drink whenever we want and as much as we want without having to worry about cost. The very first year we went to Cancun we did not do all inclusive and found most eating places were very expensive. Since then we have done all inclusive. Congratulations on your anniversary and have a wonderful time in Cancun. It is my favorite vacation spot.

I've been to Cancun in July and it was brutally hot and humid, worse than anything I had experienced, and I lived in the desert southwest. I'll never go back to Mexico in the summer. Hawaii was much more comfortable that time of year.
