Cancun airport transfers

Our family of three is traveling to Cancun next week staying at the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach. We have not arranged transport from the airport. Are there sufficient taxis available at the airport to take us to our hotel? How expensive are they? Would it be better to arrange for tranfers in advance?

A taxi will cost between $29-35. The vans charge $9.00 per person. If you take a taxi agree on price before getting in. Best to write fare price on piece of paper. Only westerners tip the cabs. Additional fees might be charges for luggage and night arrivals.

No need to reserve in advance--plenty available upon arrival. Most tourists do tip the taxi and van drivers (I assume this is what is meant by "westerners&quot and they will expect it from you unless you are a local.

My wife & I are on our way to Cancun, Tulum area. The airport transfers are $160 (roundtrip for 2 riders) to set up in advance & local travel say this is about right. Any suggestions? Should I arrange this in advance or is there a better way? Thanks!

Maybe I missed something but as of last Feb taxis could still NOT pick up passengers at the airport. I would suggest Cancunvalet for transport to FAGCB as it is a longer trip and you DONT want to make all the stops in the van. Good luck!

I agree with dougout--last I knew, taxis still could not pickup in the airport area.
As far as the post by msc_84--I assume you are going to the Tulum and not the Cancun area. Much depends on arrival time--if you are in early and want to save a lot of money, excellent bus transportation exists to Tulum.

Thanks. This was airport "shuttle" service I believe. From some other postings I have looked at it seems car rental is a decent option. I can rent the car for $100 - 7 day rental. Any experience with driving there? We are staying at the South end of the resort strip, in Tulum. I really appreciate the experienced help!

Driving is no problem--I do it often there. However, I would doubt that a car can be rented for $100 for 7 days--car rentals in Mexico are usually more expensive than in the US.
A car would be ideal. It is a good distance from the Cancun airport to Tulum--and once there, you would enjoy the car for exploring nearby spots of interest.

That is a good rate! However, be very careful about insurance coverage. I would not consider driving in Mexico without full coverage--since laws there are much different in case of an accident. (I do not usually trust coverage offered by your credit card to be enough since it may be valid but convincing local authorities of this may be another story!)
I have driven all over Mexico and never had a problem. But, do be very cautious about the insurance coverage.

Where they are going is nowhere near the Cancun hotel zone. They are going to Tulum which at the southern part of the so called "Mayan Riviera".

Cancun valet.
For $115 they were waiting for us when we came through customs, we headed straight for our hotel and they picked us up on time and got us back to the airport.

no muss, no fuss, no waiting. Worth the extra $

Arrange first in an advance and be assured of their services. Their are lot of travel agency mention the Discovery Mundo Transfers and Ire Cancun Transfers and more to consider if you are considered those things. Since you travelled with your family.

We used USA Transfers to go to Playa Del Carmen last year with a private transfer and were very satisfied with them. They also have transfers to Cancun and Tulum.

You can choose either a shared or a private transfer with most companies. We always book a private one because we feel that more vacation time is worth a little extra money. When I first started traveling I didn't mind stopping at all the hotels to let people off, but as I get older I just don't have the patience.

We really liked having a complany that had greeters outside with the company logo who were easy to find. They called our scheduled ride and waited with us so other companies wouldn't try to come around and bother us.

Since this post is nine years old I'm sure the OP already found their transportation.
