Cancun
My husband and I booked a trip to Cancun for this June. I just wanted to know if you have any information on the hotel called "Melia Turquesa Pyramid". I have tried to get information "online" and I don't see that hotel anywhere. I would appreciate any information that you can send me. Thank you in advance for your help and have a nice day!

Nice... and expensive... Rooms are not very big, and if I were you I would try to get something just as nice for the same money, or less... My recommendation is try the Royal Mayan, (where I am an owner of a timeshare, but I am not a salesman...) Please write to me if you have any question.

The Melia hotel is a chain owned by Spaniards. They have many luxury hotels throughout Spain. The quality of their Cancun hotel is fine, but the hotel is huge, not much charm, it has a pretty crowded feeling. I stayed at the Fiesta Condesa Americana which is one or two down the beach, and it's much smaller, just has a nicer feeling to it, but the amenities are just as nice (actually, the pool at the Condesa is nicer). But if you're booked into the Melia I wouldn't worry, the beach is beautiful and I'm sure it'll be fine.

My boyfriend just surprised me with tickets to Cancun. We are staying at the Westin. Anybody have info? Also, I've checked for the Fodor's restaurant recommendations, but anybody else out there have suggestions for real-life Mexican food--not tourist places. The only other question I have is what are the must sees, that might be off the tourist path.

Thanks,
CJ
Hi...saw your post on the Fodor's Cancun Forum...
You will LOVE Cancun...we're going for our third straight year in August -- it's so awesome! The Westin Regina is a real nice hotel. Our friends stayed there for their honeymoon in '91 when it was the Conrad Hilton and said it was high quality. The only drawback some find is that it is the last hotel at the end of the Hotel Zone. However, on the up side, it is secluded and more romantic than the hustle and bustle of the Punta Cancun area. The buses are cheap (25 cents one way as far as you want to go), however, and run 24 hours a day. The least touristy places to eat are in the Downtown area -- I'd take a cab for about $10 roundtrip if you want to eat there -- the bus ride would take too long! We love El Pescador Downtown for seafood -- AWESOME! Try Carillo's Downtown too. It's not tourity at all. Casual atmosphere, friendly service, and great seafood. We had a huge seafood platter for two last year with grilled shrimp, lobster, fish, fries, and salad for $30 US!
E-mail me if you want more info!

Wendy
