Bosque del Cabo, Costa Rica Pics & brief report

Quick summary - Traveled 11/23 - 12/2. Spent 2 nights in San Jose (1 on entry & 1 on exit night), the other 7 nights were at Bosque del Cabo. This being my 11th time to BdC I think I've covered pretty much everything before and also speaks to the amount I love the place. As always, everything was perfection - the staff, the food, the cabinas, the wildlife etc etc. Highlights include a tamandua, white hawk, a puma track (getting closer!) and tons of monkeys right off my deck every day. Some recent changes for those that have been before - Gecko has a deck now, Casa Coco's pool & deck are almost finished, Casa Blanca is getting a complete makeover inside and a new cabina is being built where the old office was (above Vista Mar).

Already thinking of next trip! Any questions please ask.

Loved looking through your photos. I think we have some of the same pictures in our photo albums (we were last there in 2004) - nice to see some things don't change much.

May I ask where you stayed in San Jose? Looks like we might have a late arrival for our next planned trip and will need to stay a night in San Jose before heading out to our real destination.

Thanks all

Cattail I have a Nikon L100, and love love love it.

xelas - yes, you will have to get there again, maybe for 2013 right?

coryandcarissa - I stayed at Palma Real in San Jose. I'm not a chain hotel type of gal, but this is 3rd time I've stayed there and have always been very pleased. Great rate ($77), very nice rooms, about 20 min from the Int'l airport and about 10 from Pavas. It's only a 5 min walk from huge Sabana Park. If you're leaving the next day and don't need to go into San Jose, maybe look into this place - http://www.dospalmascr.com/lagarita/en/index.htm They have 2 locations, one right by the airport and the other a little further away. I have not stayed there, only know of it from a friend/driver who rec'd it highly.

Oh Tully, thank you so much. I had no idea that my pictures had such an impact on you!

Good to catch up on some old Fodors friends and see what everyone is up to. Have not been around much, but for our upcoming trip to Guatemala and Belize, this is the place I trust for great info.

BdC is one of a handful of places that I dream of returning to. Just so many places in the world to see and just a couple weeks a year to do it, just not enough. But someday I certainly hope to return to this one.

Loved the photos, Tully, some great wildlife sightings - pretty soon your trip reports will be one-liners!

We have Casa Blanca reserved for 4 nights in May - glad to hear that it is being renovated - any photos of it?

Thanks!

Colibri, sorry no pics. It was sort of hectic, I ran over to the new cabina and to Casa Blanca with Phil and both were full of very busy workers, saws, tools etc. But I know you will just LOVE it, it's beautiful. One of the bathrooms I saw now has the shower outside, with a lovely tub in the corner & a wonderful tile. All new countertops in the kitchen. New beds & bedroom layout (beds now face the doors). The middle section has had the wall facing the deck blown out and now has lovely wood louvered doors, so you can open up that whole section and lounge on the sofa if you want but still see outside. From what I can tell, no changes to the covered or uncovered decks (those were pretty great to begin with). Looks like maybe another month or so til complete but really looked great. Will look forward to your pics of it completed!

Hi, Tully. This is Donna from Shelter from the Storm in Dominical. I am just wondering if Donna Farmer is my friend and coworker from many years ago at the Dept. of Youth Services. It is a small world. If you see this, Donna and you know me, Donna Lewis from Sullivans Island, please write. Pura Vida....

Thanks for the Casa Blanca update, Tully - it sounds like it will be super and I can't wait to get there in May!!! It will be my fifth trip to CR, but my first to the Osa. We've planned three nights Iguana Lodge (for dolphin tour, beach time, animal sanctuary, etc.) and four nights Casa Blanca. Once I get to BdC, I do not plan to leave for any tours!

Percy always great to see you here! I took my dad to Bosque a few years ago (though maybe donna did too?) He loved it.

colibri - yes you will have plenty of birds. Make sure to take the early am birding tour with Carlos, people always rave about it. First time to BdC, can't wait to hear what you think!
