We've had Belize on our short list of must-visits for years and are finally doing it this year. Now it's down to timing: we're divers and want the best chance to see whale sharks while we're there (as well as enjoy some low-key beach time and inland adventure touring, of course). I've heard contradicting views on when the W. sharks are around - your advice, please! Your recommendations on dive shops would be appreciated as well. Thanks as always!

Thanks, Katie! I've been all over the Fodor's Belize travel talk section and you've popped up a lot with great advice. I recall you recommending seeing the whale sharks out from Placencia - do they not show up in other spots (e.g., around Ambergris Caye)? I'll also check out the Belize Forum, but it intimidates the heck out of me (plus I inherently trust Fodorites)! Thanks again.

One cool thing about the Belize Forum that doesn't appear to be the case here is that many of the posters live and work in Belize and have more information than a typical traveler.
