I saw you posting about a beach resort in Nicaragua. My family is building a hotel in Nosara, Costa Rica. We will not all be able to get residency so will need to leave every 90 days. Nicaragua is a better location for us to get to as opposed to Panama, so I'm very interested in this hotel. I will do a search and try to find out where it is, but would you know the best way to get there? Would I be able to get a taxi from the border or would that be too expensive? Any tips you could give me would be great.

Ally, I know I'm butting in here, but have you looked into Morgan's Rock--just opened last month--just across the border, I believe, and near the lake. It looks very nice.

You are investing and no residency..why not built your property in Nicaragua.

Not sure about taxis from the border to the resort...how about renting a car in Costa Rica and driving to Nicaragua...or taking TICABUS all the way to Managua, then a taxi to the beach resort

Thanks Miguel, but we have already bought property and hired an architect in Costa Rica!
We will only be starting with one vehicle for our hotel, so we don't want to take that from the hotel for 3 or 4 days, but may consider taking a bus from the border.

Shillmac and Tully, I've looked at Morgan's Rock and it looks like it 'rocks'! What a fantastic place! This may be ideal after we get establihed, but for the first couple years we may be pretty lean as far as customers,(income) etc and may not be able to afford Morgan's Rock right at first, but I've bookmarked it for the future.
I found another place, in very nearby San Juan Del Sur called Pelican Eyes that may be just right for 3 nights or so!

Hello Ally, Shillmac, Tully, it is bad how much harm bad political reputation can do to a country. I am a born andraised Nicaraguan, being living in the USA for the last 27 years and care about what is going there in there.

There is a brand new marina - resort in Aposentillo, Chinandega, border with Honduras , right on the Gulf of Fonseca..it is called Marina Pusrta del Sol...WWW.MARINAPUESTADELSOL.COM.beside the natural unspolided beauty, the facilities are all 1st class..but they having a hell of a time attracting tourists...

miguel - Nicaragua is definitely on my list although I've decided on France for my next vacay, but maybe after that I do intend to do either Nic & CR or Nic & Panama.

Hello Shillmac, I was born and raised in the small town of Chinandega. It is on the pacific coast, right in the border with Honduras. Town has really being known for it fertile soils and been a pioneer in the agriculture field. Cotton was grown there for years and was a very prosperous city, with the sandinista revolution, everything went down and now town is trying to make it back.

I have a friend who works at Allegro Papagayo in CR. Last year, she invited me to travel to Nica with her on her days off from the hotel, but I was in language school in Flamingo and didn't feel I should skip class--although I was SO tempted!

I expect that when we go to Nicaragua, it will be with her to meet her children and family. That appeals to me--going for the first time in the company of a local and seeing everything through her eyes.

Hello Shillmac, I live in Miami, where else right, make me feel very close to home.
I do really enjoy the site, lots of nice interesting things i find here before my vacation trips.
Enjoy the topics about Nicaragua, really want to see how people percieve the country. With so many tourist going to CR, it would be nice to get a portion of it and help the economy. I know Ticos have done a lot to earn that tourist destination, same thing Nicaragua is thriving for.

LOL--hablo espanol poquito. Por 3 anos, he estudiado solo aqui en mi casa en Oklahoma y tambien en una escuela in Costa Rica. Cada vez viajo a Costa Rica, hablando es mas facil. . .gracias a dios! Soy una maestra y practico con mis estudiantes cuando posible. Cada semana por dos horas yo practico hablando con la mama de un estudiante. Tambien ella limpia mi casa. Le pago y ella usa el dinero para leciones de musica para su hijo.

Hola Shillmac, que bien, escribes bien en Espanol. I personally think that TV is the best tool to master a foreing language. Not quite sure if UNIVISION is available in Oklahoma.
When I was in my teens, still living in Nicaraguan, for 4 consecutive years I participated in a exchange student program. Was lucky to get a really nice family in Oregon my first time and came back to them every year after that. They told me to watch TV for at least 2 hours a day, and better the sopa operas, and I did...
So a great tool for you will be the mexican sopa operas broadcasted by UNIVISION en espanol, proper spanish is spoken, pronunciation is very clear and sentences are well structured.

Yep. Already on top of it! Been watching the morning show for a year now (switch back and forth between it and the Today show!). Fernando is a nut!

Also try to watch the news occasionally and, yes, the soap operas! Thanks for the tip, though!
