Area to stay in PV?
Have never been to PV but trying to decide area to stay. The marina area does not appeal to us due to large hotels. Think would prefer to stay closer to downtown or south. Could you recommend a nice resort with amenities and beach?

Hi Susan! I was in PV for the first time last winter. We stayed at the Blue Bay Getaway- all inclusive, adults only. It is approximately 10-15 minute walk to downtown, on a bus route. Beach is nice, food is American/ Mexican buffet style, 2 other restaurants which you reserve- fancier meals. We stayed in a standard room which is in the low-rise- faced the garden. Oceanview is in the tall tower. Overall I would stay there again. There is also the sister hotel- The Blue Bay Club which is further south. There is a free shuttle between the two hotels to use their amenities. I think the Blue Bay Getaway is considered in the Hotel Zone. Hope this helps!

Hey Susan- <BR> I've been to PV twice, and stayed at the Playa Los Arcos. It is a very nice hotel, and very reasonably priced. It is within walking distance of everything downtown, and is right on the beach. We have been very happy with this place--good, friendly service. They also have a website..Playalosarcos.com

If you want a more secluded beach and nice hotel, try Camino Real. It is south of town, but you can still take a short inexpensive cab ride into town quite easily. Nice pool, swim up bar, excellent service and restaurants. If you have kids with you or if you want to be in the "hotel zone" I recommend the Krysal Vallarta. It is the only hotel I can find there that is spread out over many acres and is not a high rise atmosphere (nothing over 3 stories). This resort has lush landscaping and we love walking the grounds, it feels very "Mexican" as opposed to a very modern hotel. I have never stayed in the Marina area, but we do like to go there to look at the beautiful boats and have a cocktail at the lighthouse bar (I think it is only open after 5pm) due to the nice view. I always stay away from all inclusive due to PV having some of the best restaurants at reasonable prices you will find anywhere. The town of PV is very charming, you will love it. My only regret is that PV is slowly being "americanized" by American tourist demands for places like Planet Hollywood, Hooters, etc, but there is still much of the old charm left. Beware timeshare hawks, they are everywhere (as in any resort town). Going back to PV end of January, can't wait!

We highly recommend the Camino Real. We stayed there two years ago and are going back in December of this year. It's a short cab ride to old downtown, the secluded beach can't be beat, the service is excellent, and the food is great. We have been to various parts of Mexico and the Carribean and this is our favorite hotel.

Can anyone give me information about a condo named Girasol Sur on Gemelas Beach? We are renting for the month of February. It is right next door to the Presidente Intercontinental. Is there any shopping in the area? Is the surf calmer there? Also, what should we expect to pay for a taxi from the airport to that area? We have always stayed in the hotel zone so this is a new area for us. Thanks!

The Presidente is on the road south of the old town. The lush jungle rolls down into the Sea which makes it one of most beautiful areas to stay in PV. Take in a Sunset at El Set overlooking Concha Chinas Beach. There are buses every half hour on the main road to the old town where you will find many great little restaurants and small bars and stop by the Molino de Aqua Hotel (Water Wheel) one of the oldest Hotels in PV set right on the River Cuale and surrounded in tropical gardens. We highly recommend Playa Los Arcos. It is smack in the middle of the Zona Romantica. It is not along a noisy highway, but the streets around the area thrive with people strolling to their favorite resturants - there are dozens within a short distance. Anything else you could want is closeby also - grocery store, B.B.Q. chicken stands, drugstores, liquor stores, hair salons, dive equipment and the usual tourist souvineer stuff. The hotel has all the normal amenities - pool, food and drink, but the rooms are not luxurious. Staff are very nice and there is live entertainment in the lounge every night. No, I am not an employee but, I have stayed there four times. We now have progressed to the Tropicana about three blocks south. It is a bigger but quieter place - cheaper too. Maybe a lot cheaper now. Last winter we made a trip in to the city of Morelia and the town of Patzquaro by bus there and plane back - quite enjoyable, but thats another story.

I agree with Carol...If you want luxury and affordability...Camino Real is the way to go...We've been to different areas in Mexico but wherever we end up its at the Camino....the service is outstanding and the accomodations are wonderful....In PV it may be a few minutes from downtown but Carol was right when she said the beach there is great and secluded meaning you dont have the beggers coming up to you every five minutes trying to sell you something.
