Any hints for AUTO INSURANCE options/needs for driving in Central America?

Jump to last reply

I'm planning on driving my truck from the US into Mexico and Central America starting in mid December. I've found information on Mexican insurance quite easily, but nothing about insurance for the rest of Central America. Any advice, companies, or other forums to check out?

Also, I've heard of a "tax deposit" in central Mex, where you have to pre pay a tax to enter the territory just in case you sell the vehicle there, and then it is refunded when exiting. ...Central Am. On A Shoestring mentioned this for South America, but nothing else. Any hints?

Any advise will be greatly appreciated. -If you'd like to caravan with me in mid December, just let me know.
