Aktun Chun and Sian Ka'an

Hello,

Hoping to get more information about Aktun Chun and Sian Ka'an. I have looked at both their websites and was hoping for a personal review.

Thank You!

This seems to have landed in the wrong forum.

Sian Kaan is a huge natural reserve - like a National Park. The best way to see it is by an organized boat tour. Although you can drive into it, there is just one road in and out along the Boca Paila Rd.

Aktun Chen is a touristy spot. We've skipped it on all of our trips - the price seems very high to me $20/person for a cave tour. I know there's an animal park too - but it's small. Just doesn't seem worth the $$$.

Do people usually see animals in the Sian Ka'an reserve?

Diana, I could not find you report.

Very Best,
Gem

We went to Aktun Chen in August 2001. We booked it directly from the hotel we were staying at: The El Dorado Resort & Spa. The hotel did not offer transportation as part of the tour, so we were able to share a cab with another couple at the resort. The tour took approx. 2 hours. We went through the cave with a guide that explained the history. It was so hot in there we were sweating to death. After the tour we could buy food/drinks in their little restuarant area or wander around and look at the animals in cages. There were a few monkeys wandering around. We were advised to stay away from them. It was an OK tour, but not a highlight.

I would definatly recommend an ATV tour with a cenote stop or any other tour that offers cenote swimming. Those were fun.

Try this web-site for tour info:

Thank you Diana. I found your report. It sounds terrific.

Thank you, KVR. I will look up the tour guides that you suggested.

I am thinking that we will pass on Aktun Chun. I had really wanted to see the animals. They look so cute on thier website but I have been hearing that they are rather sad looking.
