Adventure activities in Arenal vs. Guanacaste?
We are in the very early stages of planning a week-long trip to CR in mid-March next year (2 adults, 1 child who will be 8 years old then). We'll spend either 3 or 4 nights at the JW Marriott in Guanacaste and the rest in the Arenal region. We are staying on points at the Marriott, so 4 nights would give us more wiggle room in the budget, but we'd like to split the time in whatever way makes the most sense as far as things to do.
To help us prioritize, here's my question: In Guanacaste, are there adventure activities as good as or better than those in Arenal? We're interested in zip lining, hiking, possibly rafting or boating, hot springs, wildlife, etc. Those types of things will be our focus in Arenal, but if there are any we can save for Guanacaste, we may spend a 4th night there and 3 nights in Arenal.
I posted this on TripAdvisor as well and got a recommendation to consider Rincon de la Vieja instead of Arenal. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

Arenal is known as the center of adventure activities in CR. They have the longest, highest, fastest zipline, Sky Trek, with great views of the lake and volcano. Great hiking at the volcano, waterfall, and Hanging Bridges. There's also a beautiful lake where you can hike and kayak. For natural hot springs, we like Tabacon and Eco Termales. Also like the Proyecto Asis animal rescue center, Cano Negro tour to see wildlife, and the Penas Blancas river float. The La Roca tour is great for canyoning, and we've also enjoyed tubing at the Springs Resort. I don't think Rinco de la Vieja can really compare, but we haven't been to that area.

I just got back from the Arenal and Guanacaste regions. I highly recommend the whitewater rafting, zip lining, hanging bridges and hot springs in Arenal. Its alot ...but well worth it.. the zip lines at skytrek/skytram are exceptional...the hotsprings exquisite and the whitewater rafting and hanging bridges well worth it...we did surf lessons in Guanacaste and tooled around to the different beautiful beaches...it was great relaxation on the beach after an adventurous time in Arenal...hope this helps!
