Hi we are traveling with another couple and want to spend a couple of nights in La Fortuna area. We'd prefer to stay outside of town. Something Mid range to budget in price but safe and clean. Anyone stay somewhere they would recommend?

Hi, D - I answered on your other thread, you might like the Lost Iguana or Silencio del Campo. Nayara and The Springs are nice, but pretty pricey. The Lost Iguana has had some nice specials - green season discounts, etc. You can see them on their website or ask if you're interested to see if they're running something. We've also found hotel deals on Groupon and Luxury Link.

I dittoed on the other thread; Lost Iguana is an excellent choice, especially if you can get a deal (call them, if you can't find one). Love the grounds, the rooms, the view (& the proximity to the lake, Hanging Bridges, and the road to Sky Trek/Sky Tram).
The Arenal Observatory Lodge is also one to consider, if you don't want to be near town; it has lots to offer (nice grounds, hiking, trails and tours, terrific volcano views, very nice pool area)and the price is cheaper than many: http://www.arenalobservatorylodge.com/index.php

Big thumbs up for the Arenal Observatory Lodge--best volcano views, best lake views, best hiking, best wildlife in the area.

At very reasonable prices.

Downsides: not convenient to anything other than what's mentioned above, rooms are more motel 6 than Four Seasons, food is uneven (best bet is to avoid anything with a sauce).

It's kind of a tradeoff, further from town equals better trails and wildlife. Lost Iguana is the same. I looked at the rates on their site, and we've never paid close to that. They've always had some kind of deal when we asked. Buy two nights, get one free, or things along those lines.
