Zihuatanejo Hotels

Hy wife and I are planning a trip to Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo around March 11. It's really our first vacation as newlyweds since we couldn't have a honeymoon right after our wedding.

We're looking for a smaller hotel in Zihuatanejo in the 3-4 star range for under $200/night. Villa del Sol would be nice, but it's too $$$.

Any suggestions??

Thanks much!

Check out Brisas del Mar on Playa Madera. It has lovely suites many with Hot Tubs on the balcony in your price range. Huge Huge Balconies. Fabulous views. Just a short 10 minute stroll on a Lighted walkway to El Centro. The area has wonderful cafés including MJ & Rickie's the best beach café in all of Mexico. In the Madera area are La Gula, Rufos, Casa Café & Casa Vieja all top notch cafés at moderate prices. Fill Free to e-mail me with any questions.
PS Also check our www.zihuatanejo.net for great info & discussion board.

While your there take the water taxi over to the local beach (only get a white ticket - if they give you a yellow ticket there will be no boat coming!! - believe me we got a yellow ticket once) Anyway, walk to the far end of the beach and see Franco at Otilia's he will take care of you all day. We snorkled, had messages, and ate the most amazing food caught by Franco's brother that morning. Everytime we came out of the water we had cold beers waiting for us. All day, food, beer, equipment for under $50.00. Can't wait to go back!

Actually more boats with the "white" ticket but both will come eventually. I agree about Otillas with a small warning. Frank's a heck of a guy but is a lousy mathematician so check your bill carefully. He is not a crook just not good at math.
PS Dmom is talking about Las Gatas. You catch the boats (now 35 pesos) at the Municipal pier.

We have been advised to consider Sotovento y Catalina on Playa de Ropa:
www.catalina-beach-resort.com
Six hour drive.
We spent the last two Christmas seasons at places on the Costalegre:
www.costalegre.ca
www.tomzap.com
8-9 hour drive.

MikeMo The Catalina & Sotavento are now separate businesses. The Catalina still gets rave reviews but the Sotavento reputation has become a bit tarnished however. There is a rumor that they will soon remodel.

Just went to the web site. It looks as though the two have been combined dropping Sotovento.
Am I correct in guessing the "bungalows" are the original Catalina and the "casitas" the original Sotovento?
