Yucatan For the Birthday Girls?

Hi every one! This is my first time posting a note...You were all such an amazing source of first hand info for my trip to Cambodia that I have mustered up the courage to send out a plea for my present project:

My fav Aunt is turning 80 in May and I am turning 36, although at heart I think we are both going on 21. We live worlds away from each other so I would love to have some bonding time with her. I have been considering PDC, Tulum and Isla Mujueres, as I am sure Cozumel is tooo wild and touristy for us. Never been to a Mexican Beach so expectations are looming!

Auntie's mobility has not kept up with her spirit so trekking through ruins is not a priority, but beautiful beaches, clear water to swim leisurely in, cute boutiques, mexican charm, traditional food, Margaritas & Dos XX evenings listening to a band and Pina colada filled days in a breezy comfy lounge or whilst reading in a hammock on the beach is what I am dreaming of.

Overpriced, scary all inclusive tourist conventions on a megabus with an occasional conga line of screaming children is NOT in this picture.

I'm talking 4-7 days; car rental or Golf Cart sounds fun... Is this to be found on the Yucatan for two Birthday Girls?

A Million Thanks to You All

Hi!
Maroma sounds perfect for you, but afraid it may be too pricey? Check it out...!

another suggestion here -- I think the most attractive and pretty hotel in PDC is the Hotel Lunata. It looks lovely and well kept.

My only hesitation booking it would be its location on 5th Ave., and making sure to get a room overlooking the garden, not 5th ave. because of noise.

Have fun researching!

I think either Playa del Carmen or Isla Mujeres would be perfect. (Tulum if you REALLY want quiet and laid back, or even Akumal.)

On Isla Mujeres - Na Balam, Hotel Secreto, Playa Media Luna.

In Playa del Carmen - Playa Maya, Royal Palms condos, Villas Sacbe condos

In Tulum - Ana y Jose, La Cabanas Conchita, Los Lirios

In Akumal - Vista del Mar, Half Moon Condos

A great resource for the whole area is locogringo.com

Hi,
We are planning our second trip back to Playa del Carmen for sometime in June this year, and we are thinking about staying at Playa Maya (in May and June you can find rooms for as low as $80/night and it always gets great reviews and is in a great location. Check out www.playa-maya.com). We did the AI thing last time, and although it was nice we would like to stay in town this time. The AI's are in Playacar - a gated community with a golf course, about a $5 cab ride to town. The main street in Playa del Carmen is pedestrian only and has the coolest little shops/bars/restaurnts I've ever seen. A lot of the people we met never left the resort, but i think they really missed out. We ended up in town ever night. Some of the excursions we went on probably wouldn't be the best for your aunt - Tulum was A LOT of walking (up and down hills no less), and snorkeling in the cenotes requires climbing undergound. But the beaches were so nice laying around could easily fill up a whole week on it's own!

The suggestions for Isla Mujeres are perfect! Nice hotels, all of them. The most beautiful calm beach I've ever seen outside of the Whitsunday's.
You can stroll to several restautants from those hotels....and there is a nice park for snorkling....and you can putz around on the gold cart you mentioned!
