yellowfever shots

as a Canadian, do I need a yellowfever shot while cruising around South America? especially taking a shore excursion between Iguazu Falls and Buenos Aires (travelling by air) and while on Panama Canal shore excusions? I've been told I need the shot while taking a tour in Manta, Ecuador.

I am in the same boat. I will be traveling to Venezuela (Caracas to Barquisimeto only) and needed some info about the yellow fever shot. Thanks!

I don't know a thing about the geography of Venezuela. But, I did read that there were at least two documented cases of yellow fever in Venezuela last month. Here's a quote from CDC: Risk for yellow fever infection is present in most of Venezuela except along northern coastal areas and the cities of Caracas, Valencia and Margarita.

So, if it was me, and I was in an endemic area, I'd get vaccinated. We got the vaccine last year before a trip to southern Panama. Less than $100.00, and good for ten years. There can be some side effects, but we didn't have any problems at all.

There have been reported cases of fatal vaccine reactions in folks over 60 and those with "thymus abnormalities".
